Bingo. Does Cronin have the discipline to do what's best for the franchise? I don't know how some people have so much faith in him after his trades in recent years. I really hope he pulls this off.
Dame hasn't said shit! Does Woj have some Dame quote we don't know about? Woj said the day of the conversation that he thought Dame would give the team 7 to 10 days and Dame only gave the team 5... this dude is talking out of his ass. He doesn't know what was said in that meeting, none of us do. I sincerely doubt that what Dame did today was very far outside of what he said he would do in that meeting. Who knows how that conversation went today, maybe he was checking in with Joe to see what Joe had cooking, Joe said he had nothing and Dame said well if there's nothing more then trade me and Joe got what he has been trying to get for a while now.
I don't think Portland will get pennies in return, but there is basically no way they'll get equal value in return. In a player/agent ran league, holding stars hostage will make doing business in the future that much more difficult.
you're right but what you're doing is trying to stand against the irrational & hyper-emotional turn-on-a-dime bile that is being directed at Dame today.
I have no faith in him. He has made some tear down trades... especially the Josh Hart trade, that were good enough. I just want a solid return of picks and prospects for Dame... there doesn't need to be a young star, there definitely shouldn't be any guards, I would think that we would want the team getting Dame to take Nurk and send us back less salary... maybe some expiring contracts.
lol and Cronin's penchant to send player where they want to go has done what for us exactly? fuck that shit. if he wants to go to Miami, get Miami to fork over every pick of value and send Herro to another team while sending us a wing/big.
You've seen this happen over and over in this league. It's how we got Jerami Grant for next to nothing. It's how Phoenix got Beal for next to nothing. Players and agents run the league.
me neither but at this point cronin needs to be a little more daryl morey-esque in this situation if we're gonna get ripped off
I don't believe I ever said it's been good for Portland (or Washington, or Detroit), but it's the reality of the league. I don't like it, but I know it's reality.
We've got Haynes saying Dame said he didn't want to play on a team of all-stars just a couple of days ago. Now, sure, Haynes could be lying, but what would be the point there? It actually contradicted stuff Haynes had said a couple of weeks earlier. The more likely prospect is it came from Dame or Dame's camp, to which Haynes is considered closely connected. It's not like it came from some rando reporter at the Omaha Register.
Yeah, I said it on the day after the draft when Joe said that we were keeping all three rookies, if I were someone in Dame's life, I would have told him to demand a trade that day. The team did the exact opposite of what he asked. He may have demanded a trade in that meeting and Joe may have asked him to give him until the first day of free agency to announce it. We don't know. We do know that Dame has conducted himself with great character throughout his time with us.
I admire your optimism, but I’m afraid you’ll end up sorely disappointed. Cronin has absolutely no leverage here. Even if he has the balls to demand a high level return and holds his ground when that doesn’t happen (not likely he does) he’ll get ruthlessly hammered every day that passes for holding Dame hostage after all the years he was loyal to the organization. Not sure Joe is built for that kind of pressure. If the only deals available today involve Portland getting fleeced, I say don’t pull the trigger. Nothing against Dame. He’ll always be my favorite Blazer, his request to go somewhere else doesn’t change that. BUT, he should understand this is a business. He signed a contract to be here and he’s the biggest asset the organization has. To hand him over now for a bag of peanuts because he wants to go elsewhere would be bad business. So bad it could set us back 5 years or longer. I hope I’m wrong about Joe. I hope he refuses to let Dame walk for nothing in return, even if that means Dame decides to hold out. Something about how Miami expects to take advantage of the situation is maddening. Why should they be gifted a top 75 future HOFer for Tyler Herro and some scraps? I’d rather stand pat and live with the daily distractions of where’s he going to end up. Not a pleasant thought but better than bending over imo.
I cant help but notice that those of us that believed Dame would request a trade if we drafted at #3, especially Scoot, and kept him are the same people who aren't hyper-emotional and turning on a dime. We simply chose to believe Dame and what he said. The rest of you (not specifically Wiz) kept saying "Scoot is not just another 19 year old // Dame won't actually request out // he didn't ACTUALLY say he was going to demand a trade (as if that other conversation was anything but that)" and are now shocked.
I don't think there's any way they will get equal value in return either however they should free up salary or at least take back players that can be traded or have expiring contracts so they have the flexibility to continue building.
