but this idea that Portland is magically on the right track is based upon nothing right now. Just wishful thinking. Grant at 32M/year for 5 years? Where is the upside in that deal for that player? Portland possibly not getting any draft picks from a Dame trade for years? Cronin quite possibly trying to put together a competitive team that would very likely have a ceiling of play-in berths and lousy draft picks because the team won too many games to be viable in the lottery I'm seeing people who hated the purgatory Portland was in get excited about a future that could easily be a same or even worse purgatory, and almost certainly will be if Cronin bollixes a Dame trade. And many of those same people think Cronin is a fool...sell low Joe...but are somehow convinced he's going to do great in a Dame trade when his counterpart could be Pat Riley or Sean Marks or even Danny Ainge
I fully expect to get pennies on the dollar in this trade. However, I hope this really dragsssss out. That's the only way we get anything at all.
So, 2 lower than last year? OK. I can live with it. We will see what the Dame trade brings and how Scoot and Shae look together. Would not surprise me if you are right, would not surprise me if you are wrong.
Scoot for ROY will be the only compelling thing for us to watch, unless our FO decides yet again to tank
But that brings up a great point.....we don't know what the future holds. But we do know what has happened recently, and it wasn't pretty, whether we were purposely tanking or not. The Grant signing makes no sense on it's own, but they were trying to keep Dame with re-signing the player Dame wanted here just not that long ago. Now are they stuck with Grant thinking they would signing him with Dame in the future? Then as soon as he is signed, Dame asks for a trade? That really stinks if we are tied to him because of something we were trying to do to keep Dame. And Joe will very likely be outclassed by some of the best GM's in the business. They do that to almost everyone. But now there is at least some hope. Hope that these players develop and we can build around them. Even though the record will be worse, although it can't be that much worse than where we have been relegated to the last few years, at least there will be a direction instead of the damn straddling the fence crap.
What is the matter with that path? Tell me......if the start date is today.....and the end date is a point in the future where fans can determine that the news today, was bad or good.....isn't it a choice? Don't we all get to choose how we want that next however many months or years to feel? Personally, I choose that today is the start of something better. Even if I'm wrong, I at least get to enjoy all that time. I would always rather that I was wrong in being happy, that right in being miserable.
Is this the quickest growing thread on S2 history? 58 pages and started this morning? @SlyPokerDog inquiring minds want to know. Di this thread go from infancy to middle aged adult quicker than any prior? Holy nutcakes.
Interesting. Name a bigger '3' in the NBA than Butler, Bam and Dame. If there are, there aren't many and that completely goes against what he has indicated for so long.
Maybe. Or maybe Billups is a better coach than we have seen when he has a team that can play the style he hopes for. There are reasons to watch. Last year the main reason to watch, once Winslow went down and the Blazers tough defense collapsed was to see how Shaedon progresses, except from that magical every year month when Dame goes Nuclear. I am ready for some bad basketball with a lot of effort. Not sure we got that much of it in recent years. But, there are other options. Sharpe showing how quickly he progresses when the team is basically in his hands (and Scoot), how good Scoot really is, etc... I am ready to watch more team oriented Blazers offense than in recent years.
