I'm hoping that wherever we send him, his teammates games fall off a cliff and he averages 40 on a loser that we pass by in the next couple of years.

I think they get this thing figured out rather quickly, no one wants this hanging over their head. I think it will be a deal that will definitely benefit our rebuild but we'll probably think we should have gotten more for a second team all nba guard.

difference is, mitchell & gobert didnt request a trade, it was utah jazz that initiated it, while dame lillard has requested a trade and named miami heat as the team he wants to get traded to

it could be a bad look if we dont appease him (you already know that nba world would be like: trail blazers are ungrateful, they did dame lillard dirty etc)

that being said, its not like we can attract great free agents anyway, so who gives a fuck, send him to gulag, if thats the best offer we get

I give zero shits what the NBA or any talking heads think. Dame did us no favors by waiting for Grant to sign and prolonging this damn thing. I hope Joe calls his bluff. Doesn't sound like the two sides are or have been on the same page at all.

Joe has a real chance here to get this right in the end. Fingers crossed.

If Brooklyn is actually interested in Dame themselves, why the hell would they grease the wheels of a Dame to Miami trade?

Me too! Finally we agree on something.

Olshey hit the jackpot off the bat drafting Lillard and then pretty much shit the bed every year after. The best teams Dame was on were right at the beginning of his career and then steadily trended down until cupboards were near empty when Soapy was finally mercifully canned. No viable path existed for Dame to contend here as many posters pointed out again and again. Prayers for Joe to pull off a lopsided fleecing of a trade were not answered and so here we are at the logical split.

Thank goodness they didn't trade a viable future (Scoot & Shaedon) trying to save face doing an impossible task of appeasing whats left of Dame Time. Throwing more good money after bad to land some non-needle moving vets and tread water faster. This roster has major holes and little proven depth. The Scoot and Shaedon show will get a few years to build and maybe they'll turn into the players we hope they will. The team will likely stink while they develop so they'll get more lotto shots. I'm more intrigued then I've been in a quite a while, there is reason to hope again.

Dame is getting traded to Miami because that’s where he wants to go. Whether we like it or not there isn’t going to be a bidding war. Now it’s just a matter of Miami working out details.

I've always hated Jody and the Vulcans but I wonder if they could actually help the Blazers get a good return on a Dame trade?

Joe might feel like he wants to take care of Dame and send him to his preferred Miami destination. But all major moves get approved by Jody.

I just don't see Jody 1. Eating huge multi year contracts on Herro/Robinson or 2. Agreeing to take less talent in return that lowers the team value.

Blazers can hold out for Brooklyn or another team to get max value.

I don't think we would be taking back guys we don't need on multi year contracts anyway. Herro will go to a team that values him. If we need salary filler besides that it will be a good player at a position of need and/or expiring contracts. They might get Dame and we might not get full fair market value for him but they're not just going to give us shit that doesn't make sense for us or something that's punitive like Robinson.

I've been seeing people saying this all over the place and I need help understanding it. My understanding is that he can't force us to trade him anywhere and we can send him wherever we darn well please.

if we can get assurance of an extension from OG, i like this (from KOC):

    8. Raptors: Years ago, the Raptors scooped Kawhi Leonard with only one year remaining on his contract and then won a championship. What’s stopping them from tossing three firsts, a swap, OG Anunoby, and some other filler at Portland?
