Any trade for Dame has to include Nurk. We need to clear his salary. He's going to be a malcontent without Dame. I don't think he has much value. Does anyone think we should keep him?
Hoping the style of play becomes faster, less iso and more ball movement, so definitely don't think he fits any longer. As much as he frustrates, he does have his shining moments.
I want to see Nurk next to Scoot and Shae first. Tell him if he wants out that’s fine but it won’t happen until the deadline. We’re not trying to win now anymore, and who knows he might enjoy playing with the kids.
I don't think Nurk has to go at all but I think he'll want to go. Only players who want to be here should be here.
I wanna keep Ant as our 6th man. He is a sharpshooter, still young, learned from one of the best. When you teach your son, you teach your son's son.
Nurk is a movement player, European. He never liked guys standing around passing the ball then jacking up a 3-pointer. Remember the 4-game win streak? That's how Nurk wants to play. He may not be able to catch lobs, but he'll be happy throwing them. And grabbing rebounds and throwing the ball down court. And passing to cutters. The backcourt of Dame and Ant gave us a distorted view of both Grant and Nurk.
Blazers need to spend 122.4 million just to reach the minimum salary floor. Whether it's Nurkic, Grant or hiring players on the IR, old guy buyouts, the Blazers need to spend a required amount of money to be an NBA team.
What? I would make Scoot earn his starting spot. Scoot shouldn’t just be handed the team. If Scoot is good enough to beat out someone who has had 5 years of experience, we got a real winner. No matter how good a rookie is, asking that of him is pretty lofty of an expectation. Simons had 11 games starting without Dame where he averaged something like 28/3/6 on .46/.41/.94–we need him to do this for an extended period to get any value out of him. Right now, I’m thinking… Ant (18)/Scoot (30)/Mays Sharpe (32)/Ant (16)/Thybulle Then, by the deadline, we might be able to actually talking about getting a very decent deal for Ant. Scoot is a rookie, he has 3 more seasons to start during his rookie deal.
No reason to get rid of Nurk for the sake of doing it. That means no trading away anything of value to trade him. At the least, he’s a good screen setter who will help Scoot and Sharpe with getting good PnR opportunities. With no pressure to win, he might get opportunities to eventually be a pretty reliable shooter. By then, maybe his contract is easier to trade.
Makes sense to send Nurk out in a Heat trade, they just don't have many assets and I agree Nurk is worth less than nothing on that contact. I wouldn't say Nurk has to go though. If the Nets offer more draft picks we can keep Nurks overpaid deal. Especially if we only take on expirings or even Ben Simmons 2 year deal.
