Sweet. Let's send him to a bad team for a pick of theirs, then! They can have him for 30 games a year!

I honestly think no matter what happens we are gonna end up with Ben Simmons, I just don’t see why Brooklyn would give up that much to get rid of a guy with only 2 years left on his contract. If we can get 1s for albatross contracts at this point though I’m in. Just imagine if he returned to form.

It certainly seems that way. Whether that's because a lack of respect for Cronin among his colleagues, a deflated value of our trade pieces, a diminished desire of making moves due to the new cba, or some other more nefarious reasoning, is yet to be seen.

[Jackson] As @IanBegley noted&we've corroborated, Nets were contacted regarding Herro (& have interest) as part of a 3-team Heat/Blazers/Nets permutation to get Lillard to Miami. As @BobbyMarks42 noted, that would work with Simmons, 5 1sts to Blazers. But Portland obviously could seek more

A lot of his "injuries" were due to tanking.

Yes, Marks thinks it will take a 3rd team as the Heat don't have the assets.

No idea how good he could be, and it doesn’t really matter.

These would be available picks for us while Sharpe and Scoot are on their rookie deals:
    - 2024 unprotected MIA
    - 2024 POR
    - 2025 unprotected PHX
    - 2025 POR
    - 2026 unprotected MIA
    - 2026 POR

Then once they start their max extension, here are the available picks:
    - 2027 unprotected PHI
    - 2027 unprotected PHX
    - 2027 POR
    - 2028 unprotected MIA
    - 2028 POR

At the very least, Jovic and Clowney are flyers that are both 6’10. Clowney could be a versatile defender who can play the 5 like Claxton—he hasn’t even played his first game yet.

Just having that many unprotected 1sts with an already established core of Shae and Scoot is a dream scenario. And we have ANOTHER guard we need to raise his value on before we trade by the deadline. The goal with Simons would be to get at least 2 1sts or one enticing young player and a 1st.

Let’s say by the 2024 lotto, we end up with our own lotto pick, the MIA 1st, and another 1st that conveys from a Simons deal. Plus Lowry’s contract expires.

Theoretically, we can be in a position where we can overpay someone next summer with a max 3 year deal like Siakam if we wanted. That’s a GREAT position to be in one year post-Dame. Almost as good as you can ask for imo. It’s a real debate whether or not the 6 1sts are an overpay. Nets might not be willing to even give up that many.

I actually like the idea of experimenting with Simmons. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't really hurt the team because he only has 2 more years left. But Simmons could play forward for us, which would help with our size/rebounding issues (and he's an all-nba defender). Portland would be a low-pressure situation for him because we're not expected to win and he'd be out of the spotlight.

Simmons, Scoot, Sharpe,Grant, Nurk...could be a fun team.

As has been said approximately 100 times in this thread, Miami has NOTHING to offer in a Dame trade without giving up one of the two stars Dame specifically wants to go there to play with.

That's what is fucked up about this whole drama. If Dame gets his way, he is going to fuck Blazers fans hard on his way out the door. As for me, that's going to erase a good amount of a decade's worth of good will and respect.

Correct. And I don't see how involving a third team does any good, since Miami doesn't have the assets to give to that third team either.

To me, this feels a bit like breaking up with a significant other.

    My emotional swings -
    What the fuck?
Are you sure you don't want to stay together?
    Screw you.
Perhaps we should give it another try?
I'm better off without you anyway!
We could have made it work.
There's lots of other fish in the sea!

I'm now moving on to the reality that Dame really doesn't love me. Er, doesn't want to be a Blazer.

Ok. This is a bit like pre-draft excitement. Christmas eve. What new toys do we get to play with?

you completely lost me about what you're saying here...sorry

first of all, where is Dame going? Miami or Brooklyn?

secondly...Miami can't trade their 2024 first, so it's off the table(unless they somehow get another 2024 first). And Miami can't trade their 2025 or 2026 or 2027 first's so those are off the table

and if Dame is going to Miami, what is the incentive for Brooklyn to trade three first round picks? Herro?

Someone else mentioned it but they (Brooklyn) would be giving up 2 1st rounders for Herro and that'd be dumb on their part. But I appreciate the post, informative.

It was in response to the hypothetical trade someone posted in here.

At some point, we have to compromise with him for his loyalty. It all depends on what Herro would command on the market.

If we told Miami “look, give us Jovic, 3 unprotected 1sts, flip Oladipo to another team to get us another 1st, and find a team that will take Herro for bad contracts, expirings, and 3 1sts” and they complied, it’s going to be hard to say no.

At this point I doubt Cronin would care if the Nets wanted Simons or Herro as long as we get two firsts. They are on similarish contracts.
