So the Nets have zero interest in Dame? If they had any whatsoever, why would they try to help Miami?
Always cracks me up when people think 1st rounders from great teams are a haul. We want unprotected picks from crappy teams.
Right now, what I want from Miami: 2028 and 2030 unprotected 1sts, Jovic, Jaquez, and Lowry’s contract for Dame and Nurk. What I want from Brooklyn: 2027 and 2029 PHX 1sts, 2027 PHI 1st, Whitehead, Clowney, Ben, Dinwiddie and O’Neal’s expiring for Herro, Jaquez, and Lowry’s contract. If Dame out = 5 1sts, 2 rookies, and around $30m off the books, I’ll take it. That puts us in a position to: 1. Get a good lotto pick 2. Gain more salary flexibility
We should aim for one or two under 25 y/o with high upside on a team friendly contract plus four to five unprotected first round picks.
Yeah this is certainly not a smash accept for me without knowing which picks, how many of them and what their protections are (ie. if either team are trying to add more protections to them). DFS is crap; Simmons -- while tempting as a reclamation project should be treated as a negative asset, and the Heat are keeping Martin and Jacquez... I'd hope Joe would demand more, but with the right picks it's at least in the ballpark of interesting...
Good teams that are old (like Phoenix) makes their picks potentially AMAZING in four or five years because they'll be crappy when we have their draft pick(s).
The logic, I think, is that the Nets have been burned a couple of times (Pierce and Garnett and then Harden/Kyrie/Durant) with going after quick fixes with veterans. I'm not sure I buy that, though. Assuming they see Bridges as their current franchise guy, and that he likes Dame as much as Dame likes him, it seems like there could be some pressure there (Bridges is also almost 27, so the timeline with the two of them isn't crazy). Additionally, the Knicks are pretty good... and I gotta think the Nets want to be THE team in New York. Dame would become the best player in the biggest city, and that's gotta give them incentive to mortgage some of their future to get him.
a minimum requirement from Miami--->Portland HAS to be Jovic + Caleb Martin + 2028 first + 2030 first + 2029 swap. If Miami doesn't send all that to Portland, they can get fucked I'd demand Jaquez too, just to fuck over Riley after his underhanded move, but I don't think he's that good and I don't want this to drag out that long
We wanna start a Miami thread? Not to be snarky, but it seems like that's a pretty good conversation to be had and I don't want to derail this (which is focused on Nets news and rumors).
I know most hate him now, but Cronin embodying some of that Masai Ujiri big-ball energy would be a great development...
I like the security of having Ayton locked up for the next three years when faced with the possibility that Claxton could be a rental.
