Heat get Dame and Nurk Blazers get Lowry, Caleb Martin, Nikola Jovic, Jaime Jasquez (#18 pick last month) 2024 1st unprotected 2028 1st unprotected 2030 1st unprotected 2027 1st swap unprotected 2029 1st swap unprotected 2026 2nd 2029 2nd 2030 2nd 2026 1st Atlanta from San Antonio 2028 1st Boston from San Antonio 2024 2nd Lakers from OKC Spurs get Herro Heat first have to ask OKC to take the 2026 pick unprotected instead of the 2025 protected pick they are now owed. OKC does this as an unprotected pick has way more value and give us one of their least valuable 2nds. This frees up the heat to give us 2024 unprotected. I actually think this is a solid trade package. 5 years of Heat unprotected picks if they really suck post Dame/Butler run which seems highly possible if not likely. 5 total 1st round picks. 3 quality cheap NBA players in Jovic, Martin, and Jasquez. No long term bad contracts and we get out of Nurks overpaid deal. If the Heat say it's to much then we say fine, we explore other teams offers. We publicly say we've offered to trade Dame to the Heat but their not willing to accept our offer so we're exploring offers from other teams. That also puts the responsibility on Dame to pressure the Heat to accept the deal if it's truly his #1 destination.
OK let me ask you this. How would you rank the following players in terms of who you would want on your team if you were the Nets? For me, it would be 1)Claxton, 2)Clowney 3) Herro So I would walk away if I were them
Ant is better. He’s actually shown glimpses of being a lead guard, and makes a flat $25m/year compared to Herro who will make $27, 29, 31 and 33m. Herro is taller, but not a point guard.
You're completely ignoring dumping Ben Simmons. Without that included, those are false options. With them, I'd go: 1) Dumping Simmons AND getting Herro 2) Claxton 3) Clowney
I think this is decent if Jaquez is added, and would prefer Claxton. But this is close to a good framework.
My concern is that I think Dame was Nurk's stabilizer, and, even at that, we seemed to get one really good game, one decent game and two games that left you wondering who the guy was in the Nurk suit out of every four games. I'd be worried that without Dame he'd go into a complete funk, and the return you could get by including him in a Dame trade would be gone.
I could be wrong but I think I read that Jac just signed his deal meaning he cannot be traded for 30 or 60 days forget the rule.
Anyone know the ceiling on Jovic? I remember people complaining about the Pau for Kwame deal but Memphis got Marc Gasol in that deal as a throw in. He turned out to be one of the best centers in the league.
Nets are getting too much back for just dealing Cam Johnson. Blazers should be getting a couple of draft picks, IMO.
The Miami part is clear to me: MIA Gets: Damian Lillard, Jusuf Nurkic MIA Trades: Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, Nikola Jovic, 2024, 2028, 2030 1sts (2026 unprotected to OKC as part of Oladipo trade), POR right to swap in 2025, 2027 & 2029 Then it becomes a situation where Herro's value to a 3rd team needs to be maximized. Brooklyn could be interesting because I could see them having interest in Herro and a need for Lowry. The rumor is they're open to acquiring Herro. They've already agreed to a pending trade with Joe Harris' $19.9M contract going to Detroit with no money back. Brooklyn can trade Royce O'Neale to Miami or another destination who matches with the pending Oladipo to OKC trade. Dinwiddie & Sumner included to match salary. Portland could try to get Clowney or Whitehead thrown in. My favorite idea for Brooklyn's pick compensation is them sending a 2029 1st via BKN/PHX/DAL to Portland because the odds of that being a high pick are greater. BKN Gets: Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry BKN Trades: Joe Harris (to DET), Royce O'Neale, Spencer Dinwiddie, Edmond Sumner, 2029 1st (Best of BKN/PHX/DAL) Chicago recently applied for a disabled player extension for Lonzo Ball that they could use to trade for Royce O'Neale. Portland could try to get their 2024 1st back in such a move. CHI Gets: Royce O'Neale, 2nd round pick(s) via BKN, MIA, & POR CHI Trades: 2024 POR 1st (Back to Portland) So in the end: POR Trades: Damian Lillard, Jusuf Nurkic POR Gets: Spencer Dinwiddie, Edmond Sumner, Nikola Jovic, a $45.6M Traded Player Exception*, Four 1st Round Picks, 2 First Round Swaps, and their 2024 1st Back *Edmond Sumner and Nikola Jovic would be absorbed into the Hart and GP2 TPE and Jusuf Nurkic matches Spencer Dinwiddie, thus turning Damian Lillard's contract a TPE. I would buy out Dinwiddie's contract. Portland's Picks: 2024 POR 1st 2024 MIA 1st 2025 POR 1st (right to swap w/ MIA) 2026 POR 1st 2027 POR 1st (right to swap w/ MIA) 2028 POR 1st 2028 MIA 1st 2029 POR 1st (right to swap w/ MIA) 2029 BKN/DAL/PHX (best of the 3) 2030 POR 1st 2030 MIA 1st Those 1st round picks have the potential to be at the top of the draft and are unprotected, and the timing matches up with Scoot Henderson's and Shaedon Sharpe timeline to make an all-in splash around them. Portland would have apx. $50M in cap space for the 2024 off-season. Potentially more if they trade Simons/Grant for expirings and assets in the next year. 2023-2024 Lineup Henderson (33) / Simons (15) Simons (20) / Sharpe (18) / Sumner (10) Sharpe (16) / Thybulle (18) / Rupert (16) Grant (24) / Murray (24) Paul Reed? (24) / Tavares? (15) / Grant (9)
I'm real conflicted on this. On one hand Simmons is only 26 and is tall and seems to try hard on the defensive side. My hope in rebuilding around Scoot and Shaedon is that defense will be made a priority in how the team is built. Maybe Simmons fits into that if the Blazers can get though to him. On the other hand, We're likely to have a young impressionable team. Simmons is widely thought of as a cancer. I don't want that on a rebuilding team.
A third team will likely have to be involved. In my opinion, I would try to see if Detroit is interested. I don't get the particular impression that they were sold on the Thompson twins like Houston and Portland was. Thus, they may like Herro, Jaquez, one Miami pick (the other one would be re-routed to Chicago), and Portland's 2024 pick (possibly unprotected even). Move some players around like Lowry (Portland buyout), Bagley (Portland), Hayes (Heat) around to balance it out In this fantasy scenario, Blazers get to rebuild with a young trio in Scoot-Ausar-Sharpe and Pistons get two guard/forwards that can shoot and therefore, balance their roster out. Meanwhile, they get a piece to rebuild with in this year's draft (which is a weak one and not something worth as much to Portland like the 2023 pick was). Then, the Blazers focus on trying to get Cam Boozer or Cooper Flagg in the 2026 draft
