That sounds like a double standard, if he does the right thing no credit, yet you assume he will not do the right thing going forward.

Gut feeling is that he is no pushover (see gp2 trade). If he does a trade that people deem unworthy, I suspect it comes to a difference of opinion on the value of what goes in or out, market for outgoing assets etc..., not a case of someone rolling over.

Explain how going from Robert Covington, Norman Powell and CJ McCollum to Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe is doing the obvious????
I'm not even including assets and players the Blazers will get when Dame is traded.

Is is not only Not Obvious, it's fucking magic.

Agreed, but he did them a disfavor by naming Miami as the team he wants to go to. This will severely limit what Portland might be able to get for him.

I’m not giving Joe credit for us moving up in the lotto. Joe’s trade history is lame. Not trading Scoot or Shae was obvious. He doesn’t deserve credit for it. It’s not like he traded those players you listed for the picks, like the deal GW deal that netted us our pick from the Nets (which was ultimately Lillard).

I think what's almost worse is the fact that in looking at the moves Miami made, it was orchestrated much earlier than his trade request. I think Dame's agent has been engaged for months in conversations with the Heat FO about how to put the squeeze on Portland and to get him there for scraps. In retrospect, it's pretty obvious how little Goodwin, Dame, and Riley think of Cronin's ability to negotiate.

What a wonderful opportunity to show them how wrong they were.

Where would the Trail Blazers be right now if Neil Olshey were still the GM?

Anything different from that, I'm giving full credit to Cronin.

The GP2 trade is one of my very favorites. Cronin knew how badly the Warriors wanted him back and he just kept holding out until they capitulated. Sure, they were second round picks, but if you draft well, they can have value, either on their own or as throw-ins to move up or as part of a trade.

Heat media saying how “uncomfortable” it will be for POR if they don’t trade Dame to MIA. The idea being it would poison the franchise. I think they are underestimating the intelligence of star players and their agents. You refuse a killer offer sheet because a player didn’t get to his preferred dream team? Any player dumb enough to follow that line of thinking is best avoided. Sure maybe a guy like Ja would be convinced to avoid POR. Aww snap!

Getting out of the last two years of his contract is a win. We'll probably miss him for the next two years though, but I think our young duo of guards may surprise people.

I believe MM is saying that he heard that the team is trying to convince Dame to expand his list.

Brooklyn alone would be immediately much better then Miami.

We can’t trade our best player ever coming off one of his best seasons ever for Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson. I mean this is fucking ridiculous to even consider. I would play hardball till the Feb trade deadline if need be. Morey would sit Dame all season waiting on the right deal. We would be the laughing stock of the league if we made that deal. If Dame was trying to put us in that position I’m at a loss for words.

First, this trade will set up Cronin. If he sends Dame to Miami in a bad trade, he will be forgotten. Anyone can do that. He either has to clean Miami to the bones, or send Dame somewhere else now. He could do "fair trade" if the other side wasn't playing dirty.

And let’s be honest…. He’s probably gone whenever Jody finally sells the team so this is his chance to show that he deserves another GM job.

LOL, yes. The breakingest breaking news of all. Trying to get him to open up a bit more, or at least come out and say it. Blazers want to make him happy, but so far Miami isn’t accommodating. Portland letting Dame and his agent know what they want back.

The irony is a bit delicious, in that Riley is kind of in the same spot Cronin was leading up to the draft. He knows what Dame wants (and agrees with him), but can’t get someone to take the things he’s willing to give up in order to make Dame happy. And now has to either overpay (Sharpe and Simons AND #3/all the Miami things plus some) to make Dame happy or decide burning all the ammo on this deal may not be worth it and reevaluate. When Cronin did it he got blasted. Wonder what it’s going to be for Riley? One-team trade requests go both ways. Get it all done, Riley.

I'd tend to agree. Problem is that might be 20 years.
