Yes, he was part of a 4 team deal. Philly gave up him and a 2023 second rounder for McDaniels, a 2024 second rounder from Charlotte and a 2029 second rounder for Portland.

    Then they let McDaniels walk.

Gotcha... it isn't required to keep up with the minimum salary each year?

Remember how the Rockets were running an all rookie/sophmore team with only Eric Gordon as their veteran pro? How?? Because they took over John Wall's disgusting maximum guaranteed contract.

There are ways to engage the minimum salary requirement without actually putting players on the floor. Big contract vets on the IR, agreeing to hold salary until a buyout/trade can be reached.

Cronin likes to push the Blazers team payroll as close to the hard cap as possible, because the Blazers get more money back through TV revenue sharing.

Expect a few more high salary Blazers to be on the team after the Lillard trade. Whether they even play, or are still on the team next summer, doesn't matter too much at this point.

Getting Scoot & Sharpe reps, and a hot new ping pong ball next draft, is the primary direction of this rebuild.

He made 33 three pointers... that is hardly a significant sample size.

If the Dame trade is merged with the Ingles trade, Brooklyn could take Herro without sending any contracts of value to Portland. If the Blazers don't want Simmons, it's absolutely feasible for the Blazers to take much less money back.

Did Matisse play better then Nassir Little last season?

If that answer is yes, then Portland should match the Mavericks offer.

Based on what's on Spotrac for their guarantees and the projected cap holds they have for the two firsts (and no one else), they can't offer the "Full" MLE at this point---excel math shows they have $11,992,370 available under the apron. That's about $413k less than the max, and leave a maximum "available" slot as 4yr/$51,688,613.70

Maybe they take from the 120% of the first round pick (for instance, giving Lively 413k less means he wouldn't get the $4,774,920--120% of slot--but rather $4,361,920, or 109.6% of slot), or maybe it's not the Max NTMLE.

Fun times. I guess if I was a rookie and I got shorted 413k this year (and 1.78M over the 4 years of the deal) because some dude getting 51M guaranteed needed a bit more to call it a max, I'd be a bit perturbed.

Fair points. But he's going to be a maximum the 4th option on offense when he's on the floor, and potentially last if we have a scoring big. PHI didn't have a lot of great options...the years when he was the 4th/5th option (averaged 4 shots a game in 25 minutes) he was on the court enough to make 2nd All-Defense.

I thought Thybulle would come a little bit cheaper. Either way, I am fine with what they decide. I will say if he continues to work hard on his 3 pt shot, 12 million is ok for a 3 and D wing. And his form on his 3pt shot did look pretty good.

My take is that the Blazers still need some quality, inexpensive vets to help develop the young guns the right way. Also, our tanking days should be over. Not only because we won't need to, but we need to instill a winning culture and attitude, and in fact teach these guys how to win. We are going to need some decent vets to do that. I'd keep Matisse, depending on what player we may be getting to replace him. Only the Blazers have a real clue about that.

I hope they match. He should benefit from playing next to Scoot and we need defense.

Fischer says it's slightly lower than the MLE.

POR would be wise to match it.

POR would be wise to match one minute after the Mavs’ offer becomes official.

I would tell Matisse, instantly, that we were going to match… but I would wait the 24 hours to do so, in order to tie-up the Mavericks money.

Eh, I don't think the Blazers really get a competitive advantage in tying up the Mavs cap space for a day. We'd be better off in the long run doing it quickly if we decide to match, and maintain goodwill with the Dallas organization.

Do Mavs know they're getting Thybulle? This is expensive for Grant Williams.
