I'm sure this was covered extensively on page 96, but can someone tell me why Dame will have a screeching meltdown if he isn't traded to Miami specifically? I don't understand that part of the equation. Honestly, it seems petty to me but I have zero context for this.

It's a threat coming from his mouthpieces. Aaron Fentress insinuated that he'd sit out.

You're right but I really think he thought the team would do what he wanted them to and when they didn't it was over. People can think that makes Dame whatever they want to think. I think he felt like if he continued to listen to the Blazers GM (Cronin after Neil) tell him one thing and do another that he would feel like a punk. Dude said that now it's about winning for him, we didn't make win now moves and he asked out.

Even though a small part of me thinks Joe might have wanted this because it really lowers expectations, most of me thinks that both Joe and Dame are in a bit of a nightmare right now and both of them are just trying to ride it out and salvage as much good for themselves from a bad situation, as they can.

    I'm on the fence dude.

Did Joe maneuver Dame into a corner so that Dame would ask out and he'd get to do his rebuild?

Did Dame maneuver Joe into a corner so that Dame could ask out and go somewhere to ring chase?

Were both just being genuine and they both wanted to make it work but they couldn't? I honestly don't know.

There really is no threat though. There is no ultimatum because his camp hasn't said what happens if it's not Miami. They just keep on having people in the media say that it's got to be Miami. They might not even be the ones making it so repetitive they may have just put the word out there and the Heat might be the ones encouraging media to keep beating the drum or the media is just a huge echo chamber and we know that's true.

I think if Joe trades Dame to a team that has pieces around him to win, that Dame will just report and play his ass off for that team. He's just doing what he can to try and push his way to where he wants to be.

To be honest I think they were both just being genuine. I don't know if that's Dame's working theory though.

This clip is exactly how I feel. In fact, Dame could redeem himself if he goes to a less glamorous team and re-embraces the grind. If he goes to Miami, he becomes a punchline.

If you listen to that podcast, however, both their valuation of Tyler Herro and what they think we would accept in terms of players (Dinwiddie as the centerpiece from the Nets or Barrett from the Knicks) was laughable.

The more I'm thinking about Miami, the less I can see a reasonable deal come together with the Heat. They simply don't have the assets, no matter who they convert into whom, to make a reasonable offer for Lillard. And, like the Heat beat writer said, Joe Cronin's obligation has to be to the Blazers, not Lillard.

Howard Beck isn’t a beat writer. I can’t remember what his podcast is.

Because you can't. Haven't you ever been in a relationship before? You break up, then get back together. It NEVER works the second time.

Divorce is inevitable. We just have to get the best terms and don't worry about Dame. He can cry himself to sleep, using $100 bills to wipe his eyes and blow his nose from the contract we gave him.

I never thought someone could look worse than LeBron ripping out Northeastern Ohio's heart with "I'm taking my talents to South Beach", but at least he was a free agent. Lillard's camp has NEVER dealt with anything but fawning PR. I'm not sure they understand how badly they f***ed this up. Dame actually looks worse than LeBron.

He lost me at Duncan Robinson. We can take the worst contract in the NBA (Simmons), but not two of the top four.

Broussard makes a ton of sense. Another meeting should take place. Tell Dame he's getting slaughtered in the media and that he needs to expand his list. Go through the trade options. Don't give him his choice, but get a preference list from him. Don't continue to let your lapdogs run down your reputation. Make a statement that you will do what's best for Portland and they will try to do what's best for you. People here will forgive that. This "send me to Miami no matter what" stuff will not play.

Almost feel bad for Dame at the absolute pathetic way he has handled this. Almost.

Agree 100%. Its just sad at this point. But again, I think his personal life is going through a rough patch, and sometimes that bleeds in your professional life. It has for me in the past.

I don’t think Dame is talking to Joe anymore. I think it would be Aaron Goodwin.

My off the wall theory is Goodwin said to Dame "Let me put this shit out here, just sit back, I'm working with Pat Riley here and we have a plan"

Cronin to Dame (and his agent):

"Dame, I know you want to go to Miami but we are going to have to wait on that until they offer enough assets in exchange for a player if your magnitude. We are willing to wait as long as is necessary.
We aren't sending you to Miami or any other team of your choice for pennies on the dollar."
