I have stayed away from commenting on Dame since he demanded out. Trying not to do the "see I told you so" shit. I will say that every Blazers fan should take Dame/Goodwin spiteful words as an offense, absolutely. When discussing the Blazers I try not to use words such as we and us as I have formal journalism training on my resume from school only. Never actually worked in the field. But, there is no Portland Trailblazers with out you, I, Ed O, Mediocre Man, TBPup, MaxieP and everyone else that claims fandom. So no, this is not misplaced spiteful words. Dame knows what is going on and allows his agent to proceed on his behalf trying to stab you and I in the back. How? By trashing OUR team. Players come and go. Fans are born into their fandom. My kids have all been born in Arizona, but they are OSU Beavers, Blazers, Timbers fans. We have season tix for the Cardinals here so we root locally there and with the Diamondbacks and Coyotes. They watch the Suns. They appreciate them. But they were born Blazers fans. Players come and go, fans do not. It's in the DNA. WE, as a collective are the Portland Trailblazers. WE get to trash our organization, Not Heat fans, not players, not agents and certainly not Purple and Piss fans. Yes, take Dame and Goodwins words and actions personally. You are an extension of the team. I am certainly offended and might address it at some time trying to leave the victory lap out. Just two cents.
When the Lakers traded for Davis they traded a haul and won a title. Maybe Dame is not as valuable as he and many here think he is? He is a walk it up, shoot first point guard with little defensive ability. Great, he scored 71. It was impressive if you forget it was against the lowly Houston Rockets. I remember back in the day Rick Barry owned the Blazers. Big deal. How about breaking Stevie Blakes assist record. Maybe deferring more and getting the team involved in the game as a whole. Good players score, great players make average players good. Dame isn't elevating anyones game. Yes, he can go to Miami and get Butler and Bam easier buckets, but they are great players. There is a reason Ant played better without Lillard. And there is also a reason Sharpe played better without Ant. Same types of players.
LA fulfilled his contract, that is a big difference. He was a Free Agent and decided to go elsewhere. Dame signed his supermax contract and as soon as he could be traded demanded a trade. I know people are pissed at LA, but what Dame is doing is much worse.
I could start a crowdfunding to come to Portland for the game against Miami and boo this piece of shit during 48 minutes. You want to leave? Fine. But this "Miami or bust" is the worst he can do to ensure Portland is screwed.
Well, with all the talking of lying going on, I feel Damian Lillard lied to me. I've coached and mentored a lot of youth athletes in the last 30 years and over the last dozen I've told them to watch Damian Lillard, listen to Damian Lillard, he does it the right way, he doesn't expect things to be handed to him, he doesn't back down from challenges, he doesn't complain that the odds are stacked against him but he goes out there and makes himself better every year and doesn't get bogged down by the BS. Now I have to explain to those kids that Dame isn't really that guy. He just said he was.
Why do people keep posting that click bait hack Fentress twitter posts? Why keep feeding is lame takes by reposting?
Fentress = moron yes man lackey even that propaganda from dame isn’t overly positive. There hasn’t even been meaningful discussions and you think there will be?
It sounds like Dame's camp doesn't think the Blazers have made a good faith effort to get him to Miami. If true, it's a perception issue. My guess is that we have, but Riley's not willing to budge off of a bargain-basement offer. If that's the case, tell Dame we expect a Durant-level package back for him. If Miami can swing it, great. If not, he needs to expand his list or enjoy the big new house he just built. In either case, we need to make it clear to Dame that his value is too important to our future to trade for table scraps.
Why do all roads seem to lead back to Miami? To me, it's not inevitable at all. Just because certain parties would prefer it, doesn't mean we have accede to their wishes.
I just hope that Joe isn't under the assumption that he can convince Dame to stay. That would be the worst case scenario.
One other thing I would add if I were Cronin. I would make it clear to Dame's agent that the talk of Miami and only Miami needs to end publicly. If he keeps up the drumbeat, I would tell Dame that Miami would now have to overpay to get him. Not $0.75, not par, but $1.50. Dame and his team are actively trying to damage the Blazers, and there needs to be a cost for such behavior.
No, we're done with one another. However, we do need to make it clear that Dame can play out his contract here if we don't get a reasonable offer. That having him doing nothing in Portland is preferable to taking crap back for him. He's not a free agent. He needs to stop acting like one.
