What players haven't wanted to stay with Portland? Drexler and Aldridge... so, two players ever? I don't understand a statement saying he was "the only guy that wanted to stay" in Portland. He's actually only the second guy I remember (after Drexler) demanding a trade in franchise history, whereas almost every other Blazer ever has stayed here if and when the Blazers chose to pay them to do so. There's no reason to be pissed at Dame, at least not as I see it, but acting like he did something special while making more money than any Blazer in history seems misguided, as well.
I guess that’s fair of you to say. Aldridge didn’t demand a trade, but he left. After Dame leaves, that’d be 100% of the stars we’ve had in the last 20 years wanting out. Roy got injured before reaching his prime. CJ isn’t a star. Oden never got healthy. There’s a lot of what ifs. And choosing to pay them always meant overpaying them. Of course, a lot of players are incentivized to come here if it comes at an overpay.
Exactly. He signed for as much money as he could, and then as soon as he was eligible to be traded, requested a trade and had his agent and media mouthpiece go scorched earth that is was only to one team. He signed a SuperMax and had 4 years left. This has to be changed in CBA. It completely screws fans and franchises. If you sign a SuperMax, or anything over the 'Fun Max', you can't be traded for at least the first half of the contract.
I mean…I’m being a realist more than anything. What stars have we had since 2000? Roy, Aldridge, Dame. One guy, we’ll never know. One guy left. Another guys is leaving. Keep in mind I was born in 97 and didn’t start watching basketball until 2006. There’s been almost 0 deep runs in my lifetime as a basketball fan lol.
AD wanted LA and Got LA and NO got good value. We aren’t allowed to do that though, in our case we need to take and eat a shit sandwich. That’s what I don’t understand.
he shouldve kept his mouth shut all these years and give a list of preferable destinations none of this would be a problem, but he has chosen his pat if anyone is okay with what hes doing, then i must question their fandom
woj doing yeoman's work on ESPN. once again, reiterates teams aren't really scared about Goodwin's comments moreso, other teams might not think he fits their timeline or are worried about his salary/contract.
I wish there was a way we could get Markkanen then Hero to Utah and Dame to Miami. Of course a lot more would need to go into it.
There are some parallels...Dell Demps was an Olshey-level mgr and didn't want to trade AD (or at least, wasn't motivated to accept garbage). He was fired and Trajan Langdon came in and held firm for just about everything the L*kers could give, ending up with 3 young players (Lonzo, Hart and Ingram), 3 FRPs and an unprotected swap. Rich Paul was doing some of the same stuff Goodwin is doing now, telling other teams AD wouldn't re-sign, maybe wouldn't play, etc. Langdon and Griffin held firm, even when it "got weird". Even Barkley called out Rich Paul and AD for the shenanigans.
