Cronin was hired to be the hatchet man and to take the fall for Dame failing to get to the finals (which the team knows they’re more than 50% responsible for). He’s John Nash II. He might be much better than that; we shall see.
The more that Dame team continue to try throw there weight around if I was GM it would be least likely your going get what you wants. Cronin got the ball in his hands not Dame not his buddies and definitely not his agent. Cronin needs to get a package that's suit him and this organization. Find if Dame wants go Miami find we will send him there when Miami can come up with package that we will take. You make Miami to do all the work if it's getting a third team involved so be it. It's like I got the product and that's Dame now how bad do you actually want the product.
Not me. The last thing we want is an owner who gets involved in these types of decisions. They are too arrogant and emotional. Sure there have been a few owners in the past that were good at it. Jerry Buss was great, but his kids were not. These days all billionaires have made their money in non-sports-related industries. Look around the league right now and tell me how many owners you would want to be involved. Hell, even Jordan sucked at it. Joe does not need to be a negotiator in this particular situation. He does not have to sell a player on why he should sign with the Blazers. He and his team just need to know which players and picks are going to help the team moving forward and who aren't. Then just shut up and wait until they come up with the package..... and don't bend over for them. He doesn't need any juice, he just needs to be methodical about it
I wonder if, ironically, this hard line bullying stance is going to have to opposite impact Goodwin/Dame intended it to have. It’s not just Portland fans that feel rubbed the wrong way, the entire media is starting to express confusion over the bind that Dame has put the team in. If it was a quiet friendly request, he might be in Miami by now. But by taking a hard line stance—and from that, having so many people nationally say “don’t back down, don’t be bullied”—I wonder if it is giving Joe a firmer backbone than he otherwise would have had. Or at least that’s my hope.
I went from wanting Dame to retire a Blazer to giving zero shits about him so fast it almost concerns me.
I don't think that's what the Blazers would do, but it's what the Blazers should do. Let him sit. Let him not play. Let him stew and make his diss tracks and send out his cryptic tweets. Meanwhile, the Blazers will move ahead with their young core and add another piece in next year's center-centric draft. I think when you get to the point that you give a player one of the biggest contracts in NBA history and he's dictated EVERYTHING about his career and the future of your team while he's walking out the door, it's a horrible precedent and bad for the league. So just keep him and let the bad PR against him continue to build.
I wish we had a Daryl Morey to deal with Dame. He ain't moving Harden for nothing. He didn't move Simmons when he held out.
What a HUGE marketing opportunity for the Blazers!!! Don't Trade Damian Lillard!!!!! Some Math: Next Year Damian Lillard will make $45,640,084 SOP is to fine him 1/82 of his salary for every game he doesn't report. That's $556586.39 he's fined for every game he misses. For Home Games, imagine that 20,000 fans attend. That's $27.82/fan So, you have a campaign that says "Every time Damian Lillard misses a home game, fans get a fresh $20 bill, courtesy of Damian Lillard!!!" "Go Blazers!" Fans in the Rose Garden used to go nuts when they handed out Chalupa vouchers, imagine if they handed out 20's instead! It will never happen, but it would be hilarious.
What if...... What if...... What if Cronin saw this scenario that is now happening, as a possibility? What if drafting Scoot was the insurance he had to buy so if the Dame trade scenario played out, we had a point guard who was more advanced than a kid coming out of college? Would that not muzzle some of the power that Dame has if he said...."I won't play if you trade me there?" Not trying to start a conspiracy here, just pointing out that we know exactly dick, about what has or has not been said or done. We only know what has been chosen for us to know.
Now Showing How To Ruin Your Reputation in 10 Days Starring Damian Lillard Directed by Chris Haynes Executive Producer Aaron Goodwin
I want Dame moved, even if we don't get a huge return. I just don't want any long term large contracts.
Love it, but I think of it as "Trade Value" instead of reputation. Goodwin made a concerted effort to lower Dame's trade value, and the ability of the Blazers to make trades.
Paul was honestly no better at judging talent than Dame. Neither of them should have ever been involved with personnel decisions.
Think of it this way: whatever happens, we'll still get more for Dame than we got for Roy, Aldridge and Oden COMBINED.
I stand corrected. I try to tune out the NBA as much as possible. It's an absolutely dreadful product right now, even with my limited viewing
