That’s nice to hear. I had assumed CP3’s efficiency was much better than Scoot’s. I was sort of thinking about overall impact when comparing the two. Watching film on his passing ability has me real hopeful he can eventually process the game like CP3. Had CP3 been drafted in 2015, I think he would’ve averaged 20/10 easily given the amount of 3’s taken. Scoot’s shooting will be fine.
Hopefully. I don’t have a doubt Scoot can be better than CP3 on offense. CP3 was also a perennial All-Defensive PG. I’m not sure if he will ever become that, but he has the size and athleticism to really be a bully on defense against other PGs. I think Sharpe could be better than Booker one day, but that’s high expectations. I never thought he would ever become a legit lead guard averaging around 27 a game on that efficiency. Sharpe does have more athletic ability though. It all comes down to if both guys can play elite defense.
Sooner or later, I think we’re going to get to the point where we’ll see Scoot do a euro step dunk on almost a nightly basis.
Games like these also make a reliable role player like Grant helpful. If Sharpe was the best player on a tanking team, I feel like he’d be jacking up even more shots than tonight. He looked passive up until the basket before the big dunk.
Together, I view them akin to Westbrook and Harden or Carmelo and Iverson. That's not a bad thing. It's just that you're going to need more pieces to cover up their lapses outside of scoring. Two superstars alone does not equate to great chemistry. Meanwhile, when they're winning games, its going to be difficult to enter the lottery for another piece or two. That's the grueling part here. The ideal solution would be to get into the position to draft Boozer or Flagg in 2026 and in the mean time, find promising prospects for depth (ex. Murray). Otherwise, for now, I would be cautious to proclaim a Klay and Curry type future when it's possible that we get stuck in a Dame-CJ loop. That's one reason I was a bit uncertain of with the Grant signing. Grant may end up becoming an albatross that limits Portland from being like Klay and Curry or OKC Big 3 due to his timeline not matching up with a rebuild. Also, I want to see Sharpe be more assertive early on. Stop shying away just because you're playing with a good player who handles the ball. You have the talent to be Kobe so take over as well and don't play the selfless guy. Portland will lose if he does.z
No reason to trade Anferee for peanuts at this point. I hope the Blazers play a 3 guard rotation. There is plenty of time for all 3.
Yes, we need to be better defensively, but with Dame gone, we need also need a couple of elite shooters.
