I kind of figured they would be good enough on paper to contend. Dame/Mikal/DFS/Johnson/Claxton with Dinwiddie, Nurk, Thomas, ONeale. That’s one hell of a team. Not sure why this starting five couldn’t be better than the Suns starting five that made the finals.
Whitehead was considered a top 5, can’t miss prospect. Great athleticism and and shooter. Injuries kind of zapped him of his athleticism but he was still a great shooter in college for the small sample size that he had last year. Whitehead is eerily similar to AJ Griffin, although I’d say Whitehead has more potential.
I disagree. I think it fails today, in 30 days, next year and every year thereafter (when it comes to the Blazers).
ok...just checked Spotrac there are 6 first round picks who haven't signed contracts yet: 10 DAL Cason Wallace Traded to OKC 12 OKC Dereck Lively II Traded to DAL 17 LAL Jalen Hood-Schifino 21 BKN Noah Clowney 22 BKN Dariq Whitehead 24 SAC Olivier-Maxence Prosper Traded to DAL ******************************************************************************** three of the 6 are involved in trades with Dallas. And two are from the Nets it probably doesn't mean anything but it sure is curious considering how often we hear about the Nets potentially being involved in a Dame trade
Grant and Cam Johnson re-signing not yet official either. I know we have been hot on Cam for a while. Can we do a double S&T? If we can turn Dame/Nurk/Grant into Ben/Cam/Claxton/Robinson/MIA picks, while Herro/Nurk/Grant go to BK, I might love our team next year. Scoot / Ben Simons / Sharpe Cam / Thybulle / Murray Ben / Robinson Claxton / ? / Badji Even the Nets look decent with: Dinwidde Herro Bridges Grant Nurk
Maybe Brooklyn prefers Lavine to Herro, and that's why Chicago's name is coming up? They do Simmons and a pick for Lavine, Chicago goes younger, saves $$ Lavine to Herro?
grant loses his 5th year in a S&T and that's the whole reason he agreed in the first place, so it might just be a situation of him not being in town. most likely it gets announced in vegas over the next week.
Maybe, but I bet he can put up with it for a few months to get that extra $30M plus money guaranteed.
I love Simmons as a reclamation and salary match piece in a monster 3-way trade with Miami and the Nets where we get Clowney, Whitehead and 1sts from Miami and Brooklyn.
Probably the case however, for the sake of conspiracy, he might be talked out of a 5th year if he got something like a 4-year/148M deal to play for a contender instead of the 5-year/160M deal to play for a lottery team. The immediacy & reward of 37M/year and playoff games could look a lot better than 32M/year and 'gone-fishing' trouble is LaVine and Grant would be a ton of long term salary for the Nets
Totally agree, but maybe there's a 2% chance you work with him and his team to S&T him with a 3yr/95 or so with a 4th year PO (basically getting him to another team of mutual choice), and he gives up the chance for the 5th year (36M) guaranteed for a move to a more appropriate team today and flexibility to be UFA 3 years from now or extended 2 years from now when teams may have more cap/apron space. Edit: written before I saw wizenheimer's post above. Agree.
would you rather have Clowney and Whitehead or the 2027 Phoenix 1st and a 2030 swap? I know what I'd rather have, but maybe I have too low of an opinion of Clowney
I want to start trying to get young wings and bigs in the hopes one of them pops. The picks are like gold in the NBA as they are the only liquid assets that exist. Thus, picks are always weirdly more valuable than what they actually are because it's the only way of easily conveying value and it's a fungible value unlike cash considerations which is close to irrelevant to the game GM's are playing. So I mean it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other, but sure if they want to throw in another first and a swap instead I'd take that. That said, I also am pretty high on both Clowney and Whitehead.
