I'm really optimistic about Scoot. But I'm at the point where I have no appetite for more hype. I want to see him on the floor against actual starting level NBA players. Enough with bloviators talking about Scoot's talent. I want to see Scoot show that talent when it matters.
Disregarding the rest of it, you think Sharpe and Scoot are "no defense PGs?" I mean, in summer league Scoot was picking up Amen Thompson at halfcourt.
he was...but he got re-directed at every screen and pick and was too often behind Amen's dribble aftrewards but negotiating screens and picks from opponents effectively will take a few seasons of work if Portland goes with a 3-guard rotation of Ant/Sharpe/Scoot, the perimeter defense will suck. If they start Sharpe at SF and Ant at SG again...geeeeeezuzzz
Yeah - as I was watching him play I was thinking - wow, a point guard that plays defense for a change!
I am on the other end. His talent is undeniable. Chauncey is probably a very good coach for Scoot (Big Shot was highly regarded out of CU and shit the bed with his first three franchises--it took him years to fulfill his potential). However, I want to give Scoot space to develop. He'll make mistakes. His body will hit the rookie wall. He may turn out to be great for this franchise (I certainly think so), but I don't want to stay the clock starts now. Give the kid time. He's 19. All of us who have lived through our 19th year remember we were all idiots. Let Scoot be an idiot, too. Give him time to adjust to the League. Give him time to become a leader. I'm psyched about our future as well. However, I am willing to be patient.
Where did I say Sharpe is a PG? For the ten millionth time, I don’t give a FUCK about summer league. And, FWIW, Amen was living in the paint in the first half. He was cooking Sharpe, Scoot, Rupert, Davis and I think Murray ended up on him a couple times. You even had people in this SL thread whining about Scoot guarding him on the perimeter when he can’t shoot and people saying “just wait until he’s scouted”. When the games count we will see how good his defense is. As usual, I would rather be wrong than say “told ya so”.
Exactly friend. I expect great things from Scoot, but every rookie goes through growing pains, and I think at times he will too. However, his promise is very high.
This is specifically what I pointed out when people kept pestering me about “look at summer league”. He was getting absolutely murdered in screens, but also as I pointed out, it’s summer league so part of that could be poor communication. So how the hell am I supposed to evaluate that? The second bolded statement is what I’ve been trying to tell ‘em, and frankly, I didn’t think it was controversial at all. Seemed like common sense to me. And frankly, for one year, fine. But if that is a long term plan? You better hope they all SIGNIFICANTLY improve defensively. Even if Scoot was Marcus Smart, that’s not making up for Simons and Sharpe.
