I’d rather see them get slightly better each year with some hope than stuck on a treadmill

That he didn't trade Scoot and Sharpe for whatever scraps were left over after all the guys Dame wanted weren't traded here.

He cleared something like 300M in salary off the books on an unbalanced roster, and got enough back that we could get Grant and Murray and Thybulle and...

Honestly, it's small comfort but it IS comfort knowing he was at least cognizant enough to keep the two best draft prospects we've had since Drexler and Porter.

I love the look that Matisse gave him. 'You douchebag!'.

I was in a loud casino when I listened to this live, so I didn't get a chance to hear all of the details. Re-listening to it again, here are a few of my take-aways:
    - Joe comes across as very honest and transparent. I want to root for him.
    - I like how he constantly notes doing the right thing for the team. Not looking for the short-term band-aid.
    - I like his attitude that the Blazers will be in the win-now mode very soon with Anf/Sharpe/Scoot.
    - When questioned about his communication with Dame, I found his comment about "finally hearing the truth ..." (9:44) then quickly changed that to "finally face that reality..." Hmm. Does Joe feel that Dame wasn't always telling 'the truth'? Not sure if that was a bit of a slip.

Dame has been my favorite player for many years. It hurts to see this play out. Personally, I hope Dame finds a good landing spot. But I'm a Blazer fan first and liked what I heard from Joe. Let's maximize this return even if it takes months. If necessary, let's keep Dame into the start of next season. Joe holds most of the cards here. Listening to the national media, they frame it like the Blazers have no options.

How Joe handles this situation will define the course of this franchise for years to come. As Joe said, this is the time to "Be really diligent. Take our time. Not being impulsive... Be patient. Do what's best for the team." (12:39)

Now it's time to back up those words, Joe.

Wow. They were not happy. Grant especially. Awkward!

That idiot said to two NBA veterans that they were being "added to" a 19 year old and a 20 year old: a rookie and a second year rookie. I could feel the heat coming through the screen on my phone.

He bombed on a national stage, now this. Maybe it's time to look into a different kind of work.

    Yep.

Not a popular question, but a fair question, and, of course, as a beat writer, you are a conduit between the team and the fans, so you're wasting air to own that. Just ask the question straightforward and professionally and be done with it, You don't need to qualify it ... it makes one look weak.

Always makes me think of "Moneyball" when they cut or trade guys. People don't like bad news, so just get it over with. When I'd write something and I'd get a call at the office or approached at a game by either a coach or fan that didn't like it, I gave an honest answer without himming and hawwing, because they weren't going to care for my answer whether I tried to butter them up or not, but, at least the one way I still retained an air of confidence, credibility and professionalism.
