To call out other contenders to join the contest is the purpose of the press conference yesterday. He did insinuate the possibility of trading Dame to teams other than Miami

Waiting for “The Best” is often times the enemy of getting better.

Shams the Sham at it again. Must have had too much Toradol before this interview.

Some of these guys are trying too hard to be advocates instead of reporters.

I blame the lack of Cameroonian culture in Portland

That's a loser philosophy. Good luck with that.

What's funny is some of the pundits like Shams act like there isn't any precedent for the Blazers holding onto Dame if they can't get decent compensation, but there are several examples that show the teams have the upper hand if they really want to exert it. The fact that the Blazers aren't counting on being a playoff team in the upcoming year actually makes their hand even stronger.

It's like when in the "Band of Brothers" Major (I think that was his his rank at the time) Winters chastised his charges for giving up a perfect defensive position and exposing themselves.

It's common place for a GM to have a press conference after the summer moratorium is lifted. He (or someone in the organization) likely wisely decided to attempt and address all the Dame stuff before Grant/Thybulle so they could get some attention.

I don't think there is any indication from the press conference that Miami is the only offer.

Yeah. Kind of the ultimate loser philosophy. The get-yourself-dead philosophy.

I've kind of compared Dame's position in this whole process something along the lines of "Look, I won't kneecap you as long as you kill yourself in my name and disinherit all your friends, even if they're my friends, too."

Dame's way of handling this basically has been to put the Blazers in self-preservation mode. That's not a smart thing to do when the entity you're trying to deliver the ultimatum to literally has billions of dollars backing it and nothing to do with it immediately.

    "Textbook position."
Dipshit got ants in his pants.

Winters: "We are in textbook position for an ambush, sir."

Outcome: "Captain (ants-in-pants), you've just been killed along with 95% of your company."

    It's actually comical.

"When we get Dame, we'll be unstoppable."

"OK. We'll deal with you. Just give up fair compensation in trade."

"What? We're giving up more than enough for a 33-year-old guard. No one's going to trade much for a guy that age."

Through counter-logic, they effectively tell you that they DON'T need Dame and can run it back because they made the finals this year. I've actually tweeted a couple of them back that I guess that meant they didn't need Dame then, so they should just tell Dame's management so he can find a contender that really wants him.

What is the best though? Could waiting for the so called best deal be what caused the inaction of Cronin? Do you see how it’s a slippery slope?

Best is an absolute and absolutes are rarely if ever achieved. Settling isn’t a loser philosophy it’s pragmatic and only fools convince themselves that they’ve achieved the absolute best when actually settling and other fools waste in waiting their entire lives for The Best.
