But here's the problem.... what's a good young player? Is Jovic a good young player? Or are we talking about Bridges level players? Is Herro a good young player?
Apparently, Dame's value is getting the Blazers on TV talk shows every day, without even picking up a basketball.
For the Blazers, someone 6' 7" or taller who can defend and at least hit catch-and-shoot threes. someone like Klay Thompson.
last year, Herro averaged 5.4 rebounds Jerami Grant averaged 4.5 Tyler could be Billups new 6'5" PF ? Josh Hart's replacement ??
Why should the Blazers bend over and take a player that wouldn't even be on the list of desirable additions? There could be 20 names and Herro wouldn't be one of them.
That's a better option than trying to make a successful trade with Miami, which is impossible unless they want to give up Adebayo or Butler.
His actual value is different than what we are going to get. The only way for the Blazers to realize Dames true value is to just bring Dame back, say publicly that we have Dame signed for four years and we will keep Dame unless he can give us more reasonable trade partners. A list of 5 teams. If Dame doesn’t like that, he can sit. I’m not saying the Blazers should do that, just that’s the only way to grab leverage back. Either the Heat offer as big of an offer as that can, or actually hold Dame out. of course Dame will never step foot in PDX again, but that the only way. After Dame sits a couple months, maybe other would be suitors would seem more attractive.
Miami won't put the best offer on the table right away. The Heat are very experienced trading for star players. The initial lowball offer was probably sickening. As we get closer to training camp, it's up to Miami to add more kickers as their interest in Lillard grows. the latest rumor has Zach LaVine going to Miami instead of Lillard. Cheaper, taller, injury prone, not as good as Damian. Will the Zach rumor get Cronin back on the phone ?
