jovic and Jaquez both not playing today....maybe Pat is finally conceding to include both of them in a Dame trade?
They don't have the 2026 pick as is. I'm not arguing that what Bones said is right or wrong, it COULD be possible if OKC values something more in 25, or they think a pick has a higher probability of being higher than what they will get in 25 as it will likely be between 25-30 from Miami. Getting OKC to back off on their protections is unlikely to be a hinderance, with a variety of ways of trying to entice them.
Very good ideas. Yeah Utah or some of these teams with multiple picks are great trading partners. Brooklyn has a few years like that too. We can put our pick in with swaps/conditions or something, or put it in completely with Chicago's help. Those teams could trade the lesser of a few picks to Miami, and even have Miami lottery pick go back in a swap or something, and then lift Steipen restrictions. No OKC cooperation is needed. Miami unlocks 4 first round picks. That threat also could push OKC to just simply cooperate and allow a deal where they get a little bit of value. OKC has shown they are very willing to do many moves for a small bit of draft equity. They didn't build this treasure trove of picks at once.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q86 then in the footnote #6 I think Utah used cap room to acquire Collins - so the restrictions would not apply. But that is immaterial - because a Herro/Collins trade can be made without aggregating his salary (which is the only possible trade restriction). ***EDIT*** This shows that there is a trade restriction in place: https://www.spotrac.com/nba/utah-jazz/john-collins-23614/
Wrong - the December or January thing is for when free agents are signed. Players can't be traded if aggregated for x days (60 or something in season less in offseason) but that doesn't apply at all in this instance.
Then send Miami 2030 pick unprotected to OKC. Thats way after Dame is retired. They probably want more distant picks since they have so many so soon. Portland gets 2024 2026 2028; then 2-3 more picks from Herro/Martin. If thats too much value to give OKC then gets something back from them. This is the type of work GM's need to do to negotiate. I can't run through every possible way Miami can have OKC unlock a pick. There are dozens of ways and some of them would be in OKC interest. Finding a deal for all sides is the very basic aspect of the GM job. If OKC is going to pull a Masai and be ridiculous go to other teams. OKC cooperation is not required. If Miami is being ridiculous get Dame offers from other teams. Miami cooperation is not required. If all the offers suck then tell Dame he has to wait or add more teams to his list. Then let him sit.
Thanks for the explanations. I know that players have been turned around and flipped but I wasn't sure if there was some kind of time limit on that. I'm not sure if Collins really fits though, unless we move Grant.
I think they're offering Robinson, Herro, 2 picks, 1 swap right now. Yes, a third team is needed. Yes, this isn't nearly enough. But there is a massive gulf in the offers being discussed, and what Miami's lowball offer is.
Hell no. They'd get the most favorable pick in a 2026 swap. Hell no, even with protection. That's a shit deal anyway.
I'd only want Dame back if his play merited it. If we're talking 4-5 years from now, I'm not bringing Damian Lillard back for a sentimental tour when the Blazers young player figure to be in or entering their prime years, and not just because of what he and his agent are trying to pull, but because we should be contending if things are going according to plan. This is, as Lillard is showing, a business, and I'd only welcome a prodigal son if the Blazers didn't have better options.
I don't care about either of them if they're not projected to be starting for the Blazers next season.
geeeezuzzz...for what reason? That 2030 Miami pick could be really good; might be the best Miami pick Portland gets. Why are you guys going thru contortions to get Miami picks when Dame, Butler, and Bam will could still be playing at all-star level? If Dame is traded to Miami, I'd rather have the 2030 pick than the 2026 pick. I don't see anything wrong with 2024-2028-2029 (swap)-2030 I also don't believe the Blazers will get 2-3 picks for Herro/Martin unless a couple are 2nd's
I don't get why the Heat are even given a draft pick, let alone the Blazers can't do that yet anyways. And on top of that, Miamis picks would be late 1st round picks. BFD.
Can always trade 1sts into the future. OKC did the opposite in trading three 1sts to draft Ousmane Dieng last off-season. I think all their pick capital is extremely fluid so I don't their worried about 2025 vs 2026 right now. My idea is if Brooklyn is involved, then OKC gets the best out of 2025 PHX/MIA 1st Round picks and Miami gets the worst so that it incentivizes OKC enough, and Miami is still guaranteed a 2025 1st allowing them to trade four 1sts.
Agreed. A random dart throw in 2030 is much better than a pick that's all but guaranteed to be in the 20s in 2026.
I get all that. I just don't believe OKC would cooperate with the fantasy. I think they might give back the 2025 pick, if they were incentivized; but not the unprotected 2026 pick and something else, If Brooklyn is sending the 2025 Phx pick for Herro, they won't be sending any others. So Portland DOES NOT gain an extra pick since they are losing a potential 1st from the Nets I'd rather have the 2024 Miami first + 2027 Phx first + 2028 Miami first + 2029 swap + 2030 Miami first than any of the permutations you guys are imagining. 4 picks and a swap is decent value
