Yeah agreed. Dame getting Jerami Grant was the way to go. These comments for years of maybe asking out did nothing to help. Just ask out or don't. But Cronins comments also hurt as well - all this talk about trading #3 would make any GM think they might be able to get the pick for less than full price.
Side note: but Joe publicly acknowledging the trade request really fucked us. He allowed Goodwin to legally go around to teams to apply leverage. No GM has ever publicly acknowledged a trade request while it was still going on. It removes the protections in regards to tampering. So while maybe Goodwin would still do that covertly, now he can publicly go around and say whatever he wants to other teams and the press.
Normally in these trades teams allow communication with the players/agent and new team so there is not tampering. For example when we traded for Grant. Thats routine business as usual.
What Joe commenting on it publicly did was also allow dame to comment without being fined. The agent contacting teams always happens.
That's getting in the ballpark but we're not taking back Duncan Robinson's shitty contract and that means either taking Nurk and sending Lowry or sending Martin, regardless they have to include their two young guys JJJ and Jovic, that should just be a given. The fact is the Heat need to know what they are building around so expect the offers to continue to go up. For me if we can do this I pull the trigger.
the Lillard trade request going public was brilliant a move for Blazers PR. It brought a Blazers team that kinda stunk last year, up to the level of Miami, who had just made it to the Finals. Everyone talks about Dame, Scoot, the Blazers, heck... even Anfernee gets mentioned a few times in the national spotlight.
