<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Taylor won't accept plea dealSkins safety doesn't want to admit felony for assaultPosted: Tuesday April 4, 2006 1:41PM; Updated: Tuesday April 4, 2006 1:41PMMIAMI (AP) -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor will not accept a plea deal that could keep him out of prison in an assault case because it would require him to admit to a felony, his attorney said Tuesday."When a man is not guilty, that option is not attractive," said Richard Sharpstein, one of Taylor's three lawyers.Unless a last-minute plea bargain is reached, trial is scheduled to begin in the case Monday in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court. Michael Grieco, chief prosecutor on the case, said he was not optimistic about the chances for a deal."I think we've gone beyond the point of no return," he said.Taylor, 23, faces a maximum of 46 years in prison if convicted on three aggravated assault charges and one misdemeanor battery charge stemming from a June 1 armed confrontation with a group of people in a dispute over all-terrain vehicles that Taylor owns. Taylor has pleaded not guilty and is free on $16,500 bail. The felony assault charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of three years each in prison. Prosecutors have had talks with Taylor's lawyers about a plea deal involving a sentence of probation but are insisting on a felony plea because a firearm was involved.Taylor's lawyers also attempted Tuesday to get the charges dismissed, arguing that prosecutors failed to disclose information about the criminal histories of the alleged victims in the case that might help Taylor's defense. But Circuit Judge Mary Barzee rejected their dismissal motion.Taylor, a former star at the University of Miami, signed a seven-year, $18 million contract with the Redskins after he was drafted in 2004. He has six interceptions and 120 tackles in his two NFL seasons, but has also had more than his share of troubles.Taylor has been fined seven times during his pro career for late hits and other infractions, most recently a $17,000 penalty for spitting in the face of Tampa Bay running back Michael Pittman during a playoff game in January. He also was fined $25,000 for skipping a mandatory rookie symposium.Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This proves just how dumb he is....if they are offering you a plea deal with NO JAIL TIME when your facing 46 years in Jail, you take it. You dont make that gamble.PS: How is someone whos facing 46 years in jail, with millions of dollers only have a bail of 16,000...thats nothing in his eyes. [IMG]

I think he thought if he didn't accept the plea deal, they would surely KNOW he was innocent. They know just as well as he does that going to prison would suck. He is just trying to show them that he didn't do anything wrong here.

I dont care if your record says your a felon and you have fines/5000 hrs of community service, its still much better then jail and you dont take that risk.

I agree with you man, I would have accepted it.. damn, but I'm just trying to figure out WHY he has taken this route, and why his 3 lawyers want him to.

That in itself is jail time, he definitley should have taken that plea.
