Never really dived into this thread for lots of reasons, but just wanted to say that not all cops are good no, but we need them now in society and will forever need them. All this about defund the police is stupid and quite frankly, pisses me off. I have friends who are cops and are the nicest guys you would ever want to meet and take their job of protecting the community, seriously. Every position of power in this country has good ones and bad ones, cops are no different. But I will always back the blue.
Defunding the police is a very misunderstood concept and it is not anti-police. Check this out, give it a listen. It gives a really good overview by experts. http://www.sportstwo.com/posts/4969765/
Oops, link no longer good. Here, listen to this. It's really good. It explains what Defunding the police truly is. https://cafe.com/stay-tuned/the-camden-policing-model-with-anne-milgram-scott-thomson/ In this special episode of Stay Tuned, “The Camden Policing Model,” former New Jersey Attorney General and CAFE Insider co-host Anne Milgram interviews former Camden, NJ Police Chief Scott Thomson, whose reimagining of law enforcement in Camden has become a national model for police reform. Anne and Chief Thomson discuss their extensive collaboration in implementing Camden’s reforms, the challenges of state-level political ecosystems, and the lessons that they take as we work to re-envision policing across the country. BTW, Anne Milgram is now the head of the DEA.
Nobody serious actually wants to remove police. People want the standards and training changed, as well as the judicial and prison system.
Why should cops be willing to risk their lives over a thankless and woefully underpaid job?...been saying it for years, pay cops and teachers too for that matter, and you attract a MUCH better brand of cops and teachers.
