I was unaware, I only went off what the posted tweet said and your response. I don't agree with the thought of trading Scoot (unless we get a great return). I don't think Ant would be flawless at either the PG or SG positions. I also don't think what position a player was thought to be on draft night should be taken into consideration when evaluating where he can be most impactful today.
It's funny how the talking points in the Miami media and the Portland media are somewhat similar, just flipped about who is doing what in good faith, the value of the assets involved, etc. It's clear that both the Portland/Miami media/fans are looking at this from a skewed vantage point and don't realize it.
If Portland wanted Jimmy Butler, then Woj came on the air to say Anfernee Simons sucks, + the 3 first rounders was a bad deal, Portland needed to up their offer... would Blazer fans start freaking out?
And Shams is out here saying we should be satisfied with Lowry/Jovic and three firsts for Dame. This guy....
If Joe can't get a decent trade I could see them agreeing on something that will allow Dame to start the season, excel at playing, create more trade interest, and Dame has submitted a list of 3-5 teams. That would be the smart business decision unless someone knocks his socks off now. Dame just came off his best season ever, Im sure he will play like a man on mission. Dont give him to Riley without an acceptable return.
That's an odd hypothetical because Woj doesn't go on the air and say any player sucks, but lets roll with it... If I know this place well enough and that scenario were in front of us, we'd have a bunch of different groups of posters: Get the deal done yesterday - Dame handed this deal to Cronin and he is screwing it up Butler is old, makes too much money, and would take away from the growth of our young guys If Butler pubically stated he only wanted to go to Portland, some would want to try and get a deal done without involving more than 1 future first The group holding their opinions to themselves so when a trade happens, then they can say we could've got a better deal
Isn't that basically what has been said? Either way, I'm more concerned with what Cronin does, not what he says.
Sure... but most team pay those guys $10-15m/year. (ie - DiVincenzo, Clarkson, Kennard, Huerter, LeVert). Hell, Eric Gordon is getting paid $3M/yr. Not $25-$30m/year
Did he say something elsewhere? Does: where he says if not in Portland, elsewhere, include that we should trade Scoot, and that Simons is easier to build around?
Finding someone with Simons shot profile is the hard part. It’s easier to build on playmaking/table setting skills than it is to develop into a guy that shoots the shit out of the ball in every single way like Simons does. Lead guards that shoot like him bend defenses. His trade value is minimized b/c he’s pegged as an undersized 2 instead of a good sized starting PG. Dude is still so young and last year was his first full season of starters minutes and his first full season of playing minutes at PG every night (was just a spot up shooter b4)
If Dame would submit a list of 3-5 teams the deal would get done in the next few days. If three teams knew that Dame would be excited to play for them then those three teams would start bidding against each other and Joe would find a deal to his liking quickly, if it was five teams it would only be better.
