I think that's the play that Sam Vecenie was gushing over. Not only is the physical strength insane, but it's just a very heady play for a 19 year old.
I don’t know about that, but I’d probably take him over Jalen and Tyrese Maxey. Probably Jrue too. People are gonna hate this but, for our current team (aka COMPLETE non-contender), I’d take him over Dame and Steph too.
Are you saying build a team that can win a ring in the next 3-5 years? Or starting from scratch? If I only have 3-5 years to win a ring, I'm going with Steph, Dame or Luka. If I'm starting a rebuild from scratch? Luka, Shae, Haliburton.... I'd put Scoot in that list. I'm honestly not impressed at all with Ja, Kyrie, or Trae Young. Don't even really want them on my team. The rest of these guys.... they're ok. I don't think they're the kind of guy you build around. I'm not even sure if Scoot is the kind of guy you build around. I think he can be a key component on a championship team. I think he could be the leader on a championship team. But I'm really hoping that Shae ends up being our best player. Fox, Jrue, Murray, Lamelo.... they're good players. They can probably be the second or third best players on a championship team. I just don't think they can be alphas.
From scratch imagine you’re an expansion team (that most likely won’t pull a Las Vegas knights and contend in your first couple seasons)
I If you want to speed it up, you literally can with YouTube. Turn up the volume and set the speed to 1.5. Sam pointed out that in summer league that Scoot played against some very quick and agile defenders, as quick and agile as he will see in the regular season. And they were not able to stop him.
Ok so you're going to rule out 2/3 of your list immediately. Steph (too old) Dame (too old) Kyrie (cancer) Trae (tiny score first point guard who doesn't play defense) De’aron (good player but not someone I'd build around) Jamal (good #2 on a title team) Jrue (role player) Not gonna build around those dudes. The Hawks have been building around Trae for years. He's not the dude. Luka Shae Ja Haliburton Jalen Lamelo Maxie So Luka would still be my first choice. He's still young, he's insanely good, and he's the kind of dude you build around. SGA is also really good. We'll see if he's the dude you build around, depending on how OKC looks in the next couple years. I would not build around Ja. He's a cancer. I wouldn't build around LaMelo. I don't think he's good enough. Maxie really strikes me as another short combo guard. Isn't Jalen Green a shooting guard? Here's my list (ranked) Luka SGA Haliburton Scoot
Scoot is a big dude. It might take seeing him in person side-by-side with Shaedon Sharpe to see that difference. This is an important fact in any analysis. It's too easy to mentally think of him as a typical 6'3" point guard, which he is not.
I think I’d do the same. I think Scoot will provide a LOT of value particularly for his salary. I know it’s a completely different league and salary cap situation, but it’s almost like having a rookie contract QB on a NFL contender. I would even possibly put him on the first list for a team wanting to win a championship in 3-5 years, assuming you could use your salary savings on him to get massive upgrades elsewhere.
I really think the kinda guy we need to build around Scoot is an athletic rim rolling big. Kinda like Tyson Chandler or even young Amare. John Collins woulda fit that mold. The guy I have my eye on now is Nic Claxton. He needs to be target #1 in any Dame trade.
Ehh that's a stretch. NBA team defense (some of them anyway) can scout and take away options. Houston might have the indvidual athletes but their team defense had 0 strategy or preparation.
I think I'm more excited about Scoot as a leader/play maker. He needs to be dangerous as a scorer, but I'm really over having our best scorer be a point guard. I want Sharpe to be our best player, but I want Scoot to be the motor. I want him to be the heart of the team. I'm really hoping that Billups can help him own that role, because that's what he was for the Pistons. That's EXACTLY what he was. I'd love to see Scoot become a less-douchey Chris Paul who can yam it on people.
The Highkin podcast from yesterday with Erik Gunderson really goes into that. We need a center badly. Jarrett. Allen.
Brunson not Green Part of the reason I said 5 years is because someone would think they’d be able to build a contender in 3 years or so around Steph or Dame starting from the bottom I’m sure and give them a 2 year window
Andre Miller with bionic legs dunking on defenders and running the court like John Wall. edit: look at the summer league. Amen Thompson can't slow Scoot down. There were 3 Rockets collapsed on Scoot under the hoop. If he can pass out of that (which he can) it's 4 offensive players against 2 defenders.
