<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Favre to announce his plans April 8MILWAUKEE (April 7, 2006) -- Brett Favre has scheduled an April 8 morning news conference, where he is expected to announce whether he'll return to play for the Green Bay Packers this season.Becky Stuart, a personal assistant to the Favre family, confirmed that the news conference would be held at Favre's charity golf tournament in Tunica, Miss.Brett Favre is all set to make his playing decision for 2006. In a story in the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Favre said that he told general manager Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy earlier this week that he may have a decision by the weekend or early next week."I want to do what's best, obviously, for me and my family," he said. "But regardless of what people might think, I don't want to jeopardize the future of the team. I don't want to do that. I think that the people that know me, including those in the organization, know that."Favre, who spoke with the Press-Gazette reporter at his golf tournament, said he wouldn't want to play for anyone but the Packers, who finished 4-12 last season, Favre's only losing one in Green Bay.The 36-year-old Favre, who would be entering his 16th season in the NFL, still feels he can play but said last season rattled his confidence a bit."I had a lot of chances to pull us out of the fire last year and I didn't do it," he said.Favre said he wouldn't return just to collect his $10 million salary or to try to break more records. If that were the case, he said, he already would have made his decision."That's sort of my dilemma right now. If I felt like we really could compete for the Super Bowl, I would come back. Or am I coming back just to play and to have fun, and in the process maybe we lose," he said. "Last year was no fun for the fans or for the players, and nobody wants to go through that again."Favre said he has concerns about the team's offensive line, which struggled last season after the departure of stalwart guards Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera to free agency."From a coach's standpoint, you have to say the right things, that we'll be competitive and we'll win, and I truly believe Mike McCarthy will do a fine job," he said. "But really, what have we done to replace the guys that we've lost on the line?"Favre said McCarthy isn't letting uncertainty about his star quarterback affect his preparation, which includes getting Aaron Rodgers, the team's first-round draft pick last season, ready to start.Favre said his greatest dilemma is figuring out whether he can get up the energy to have fun, something he didn't have last season."It means something to come back and be there, but to come back and be that dominant player, which I wasn't last year. I never blamed it on other guys before and I won't do it now," he said. "I don't want it to be like, 'At one time he was good. He should've retired. He stuck around one year too long.' That wouldn't be fair to anyone."</div>http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/GB/9364311

I like how the media blows it up into a conference where his decision will be made. This is an annual conference, usually about his foundation/charity and how it's doing. Then all of a sudden they say he will make a decision?

Yeah, the weekend or early next week. However, I would not be surprised if it was even later than that.Quite frankly I don't care when it is. The only way I will get semi-pissed at this whole thing is if he retires, mainly because as a fan, you want him to stay.

I would rather have a one legged and one armed Favre than Aaron Rodgers or whoever else we have at QB. I dunno, as long as I've been watching football (10+) years I have never seen anyone else besides Favre as our QB. I have never experienced anything different and I'm not ready for change.....:(No offense, but people don't realize how Favre is viewed in GB. He is LITERALLY look at as our God. He's already surpassed Lombardi.

Favre just doesn't have it in him anymore man, it's time to move on I think. You guys drafted Rodgers for a reason last season. He is the future of your team. All the great players must end their career eventually.

I disagree, I think Rodgers has the potential to have a strong career as a starter where Nall came into the league to be a backup and only a backup.

I hope you're right because if Favre retires Rodgers will be THE MAN. He looked solid from what I saw of him in clips (I didn't watch hardly any of his full games when he played college). Packers used their first rounder on him and he was also talked about being #1 overall, so lets hope he steps up.The one thing that I really like about A-Rod is his desire to "prove the 23 teams that didn't pick me wrong." At least that's what he said.

TUNICA, Miss. (AP) - Brett Favre, one of the NFL's great quarterbacks, is still unsure if he will play another year with the Green Bay Packers."No change. I don't know, once again," he said Saturday during a brief news conference from the site of his charity golf tournament. "I don't know why you guys wasted a trip down here. The Packers and I will make a decision at some point soon."It was Favre, however, who scheduled the news conference, and a personal assistant to the Favre family had said a "scoop" awaited. A Packers spokesman did not immediately return a call. The 36-year-old Favre - whose grit, durability and cannon arm have become his trademark - is the NFL's only three-time MVP (1995-97)."I know people are getting impatient," he said. "But enjoy baseball right now." Favre acknowledged that football is "in my blood," but he insisted he has not made up his mind, and he is not withholding his decision."No, I don't think that's fair to the Packers," he said. "If I knew one way or the other, for sure, and I wouldn't tell the Packers or not tell the media, that's unfair."I think the Packers have to go in a certain direction at some point. When I do know, I would tell them as soon as possible - maybe within the next week. It has been a strain on the family as well."Favre was joined by his agent, Bus Cook, and a representative for the Mississippi Delta casino where the tournament is being held. Wearing shorts and a golf cap, Favre concluded the news conference about an hour before playing golf. The tournament is about 650 kilometres from his home town of Kiln. The Southern Mississippi quarterback ranks second behind Dan Marino on the NFL's career list in touchdown passes (396), yards passing (53,615) and completions (4,678). He holds the NFL record for most consecutive starts for a quarterback with 221 (241 including the playoffs).Favre has led the Packers to six division crowns, restoring success to one of the NFL's most famous franchises. The Packers won the 1997 Super Bowl in New Orleans, a 35-21 victory over New England, returning the Lombardi Trophy to Green Bay for the first time in 29 years."Maybe we don't get back to the Super Bowl, I don't know that, but I'd like to think we can compete for it," Favre said. "I want to feel like we can compete for the Super Bowl, not just say that to say it."Last season he threw a career-high 29 interceptions and failed to throw for more than 20 touchdowns for only the second time since 1993. The Packers finished 4-12 for their first losing season since he joined the team in 1992."When I left after the season, yeah, it was tough to be excited about football. But it's in my blood," Favre said. "As time has passed, I have forgotten a little about the 4-12 season and think more about the good times. If I decide to come back and play, that's really what I'm deciding to come back to - the fun." There are concerns about the team's offensive line, which struggled last season after the departure of stalwart guards Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera to free agency. Favre also wants to make sure the Packers are going to be competitive after a dreadful last season.Speculation about Favre's future has become an annual rite of winter in Wisconsin. He has spoken of retirement in years past, only to return."I'm sure I would miss it, but at some point it has to end," Favre said. "At some point, you have to give it up."Through it all, there has been a string of family troubles. His father died in December 2003. His wife, Deanna, survived breast cancer and mourned the death of her brother in an all-terrain vehicle accident. Several members of Favre's family in Mississippi were displaced because of hurricane Katrina.Favre memorably threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns against the Oakland Raiders one day after his father's death."There are other things to do and focus on right now (besides football)," Favre said, referring to his charity. "And I say do that, because that's what I'm trying to do. I want to make the right decision, but I have other things on my plate as well."TSN.ca-----------------------------

He just keeps putting it off over and over, and the reason for that is that he WANTS TO STAY. When guys want to call it quits, they just do it. I bet he stays.

There have also been rumors going around here that he indeed HAS made his decision and told Packer management, but they are just keeping it "secret" and want him to announce it in Green Bay. Maybe false, but it's what I've heard.

This guy doesnt even know how to throw a football very good because of the way he holds it. Not gonna try to be an ass but I don't see the Packers being any good for a long, long time...

There's also news floating around here that they are holding this off so teams will think the Packers will POTENTIALLY draft a QB, therefore teams would overpay us for the #5 pick to get their QB in the draft.

You dont want to make an early decision to stay, and halfway through the season not want to be there anymore or make an early decision to go, and halfway through the season you want to come back and when you cant you have alot of unfulfillment on your chest..It's gonna take a minute for him to come up with an answer... it sucks for the team, but its still HIS decision and nothing should be able to sway it.
