Simmons isn't that bad of a contract, salaries have to match this year in a trade - next year its an expiring contract. Theres a dozen contracts that are worse in the NBA - starting with Dillon Brooks making up to 90-100 million. Or Lamelo Ball making $250+ million while the franchise passes on Scoot. Yikes!
Wrong SF going from Toronto to PDX. Cut the other teams out of it and simply give us Barnes. Makes way more sense for Toronto as well. Makes no sense to have a one year veteran rental of OG come to PDX with Dame leaving. It would almost be a devious slap in Dame's face - trade him for one of the Blazers he's been begging to join him here.
Its July - no urgency by any sides. We get a few weeks out from training camp and both sides will want to move on. Dame add some teams to his list. Blazers start to demand a bit less back in trades. Blazers don't want to have media day with Dame still here. They don't want to try and sell season tickets featuring a team led by ??? They want to get this resolved just like Dame does. But they don't want to take back a bunch of shit value.
I'm not necessarily against adding OG because he just turned 26 and I think he could still fit our window.... but I think there's a good chance that this dude is going to be drastically overpaid in a year. Not really excited about that.
Houston is not sending that package over LMAO. Maybe Amen on his own or the Eason/Porter Jr/Picks. What you list is basically 2x the value they will give up.
Fit is what you worry about when your taking the steps from playoff team to contender. Blazers need to build talent, they don't need to worry that much about fit.
And Houston wouldn’t even consider any of those trades lol I’d trade him for all those guys but Houston would cackle at the attempt
I don't understand this. How is Amen in discussions as a trade for Ant or throw in on a large Dame trade? Dude was picked right after Scoot and preferred by many over Scoot. One of probably 3-4 players that arguably could end up as the best in this draft class. I'd put his value close to Dame.
Distant future picks have a ton of value - yes they can be flipped for a star, they can be held to try and take a swing for a star, held for the chance the franchise rebuilds, used to keep the team contending if they have luxury tax concerns but acquire their main starters like Denver. So many options. I really want the Miami 2027-2030 draft equity and think many here are undervaluing it. However I'd hold firm that Miami needs to give us nearly every asset they can or we hold out for a better trade.
At least one person isn't hoping MIA steals Dame. And most everyone north of Alligator Alley thinks MIA are out of their minds thinking they have the leverage.
He made a lot of sense to play with Dame. Doesn't make any sense as the main piece back in a trade of Dame. Sure I'd rather have him than not have him. It just makes way more sense to get other assets here or send OG to a 3rd team that is a better immediate fit. Its a bit similar to adding Jaylen Brown here - it doesn't make any sense if we trade away Dame. Sure I hope Scoot and Sharpe develop faster than we expect and are a dominant all star duo. But who knows - they might both flop and be better long term as backups. We don't know if we're half way done with the rebuild or basically have 0 long term franchise pieces to build around. We need players that make sense regardless of how next season progresses, regardless of how many years we stay in the lottery, and make sense regardless of what we do or don't get out of Scoot/Sharpe. Guys like Scottie Barnes make sense with either outcome. OG doesn't.
They didn’t have to give up anyone to get those “upgrades” so it’s a completely different scenario. If they had to give up Eason for Brooks, I’d bet they’d say no. I am fairly convinced they’d say absolutely not to almost any trades that involve any 2 of the 3 players you listed. I think the odds that they’d consider Amen or Jabari for virtually anyone outside of Embiid and Giannis caliber players damn near 0.
Blazers should tell Miami what they want (if the Heat have what Portland wants) versus asking Miami to make their best offer.
Yes, Barnes would be ideal. No doubt. He is still very young and in a position of need. But in the event Toronto also values him...... OG would also make sense. I mean we do need to take back some salary for Dame. He is a better option than most as he also gives us a player of need. (a big defensive-minded SF) Who else?
No because of what their GM and Udoka have said about him. I’m not even a huge fan of Jabari as I was leading the Paolo charge last year, but Jabari is a 6’10 “shooter” and elite defender that can play multiple positions. Pretty hard to find those guys. Even if I don’t think he has the dribbling ability to become a go-to option, he’s like 19? 20? If he comes even close to Jaren Jackson Jr. or Evan Mobley that’s a pretty valuable player. And I agree he looked pretty bad last year, but I’d assume HOU thinks they can get his 3pt% up quite a bit. His shooting absolutely tanked last year
You can’t take statements from coaches or GMs as iron clad. They say shit and then they trade someone. Happens all the time.
