As Jim Rome puts it: "He was a terrible pitcher who was moved to the bullpen, and he was a horrible player in the bullpen until 1 year he explodes and is amazing for a few seasons, and then he is mysteriously seriously injured."

Jim Rome just rips on everyone to get publicity. He probably thinks Johan Santana, and all the Twins are on 'roids too.

the twins need to get on 'roids or they will be in the cellar all year. Gagne struggled in the bigs because he was put in the wrong situation as a starter. He then hurt his arm and when he came back he was back in the rotation. As a starter he was forced to throw more pitches, not just in numbers but also the kind of pitches he threw. Gagne had 3 amazing pitches. fastball, change and a slurve. he was forced to add a hook and sink when he was a starter. also he couldn't throw as hard as he wanted to becuase he felt that he had to go 6+ innings every time out. Finally he got moved to the bullpen where he could throw his top 3 pitches and throw them as hard as he wanted to. He was better in the pen his first year, but still not as good as he is now. But again that is becuase he was getting over an injury. Tommy john surgery and rotator cuff surgerys on a pitcher are like ACL surgerys on a football player. They can play again in a year, but they wont be all the way back for about 2. Trust me, i had rotator surgery my junior year.

Tearing your rotator cuff leaves your with so much pain just lifting your arm above your head. But with the right injections, the right training programs, and the right work ethic it's possible to return from it in 7 months as I did.

my surgery didn't stop me from playing both football or baseball.........but it did knock 5 miles off my fastball, and lost me my scholarships.

Sounds like a lot of assumption going on. You can't just assume every player that did poorly in the past, and eventually busted out was on Roids. It ain't right.

If that was the case, I could accuse Thome, Gagne, Nomar, and others of being on the juice: All players who have had monster seasons and then injured
