Ya, and if my twin sister had a giant c$&k she’d still have a smaller one than me……or however that saying goes
Sure, Lillard could have scored 90 against a super tanker Houston team, but he didn't. Just like he didn't get Portland to the NBA Finals. Great, another missed opportunity. I'd be more impressed with solid defense and 10+ assists per game.
I was at game. It was electric. You can poo poo his accomplishments all you want. But if Dame had as good a supporting cast as Drexler, he would have brought a championship to Portland already. Played with "one" All Star who was in his prime, LaMarcus Aldridge. ONE!
We do not know for sure, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Lillard can not be absolved of the fact that CJ was not traded for Butler / PG13 when they were available. I suspect NeO looked for Lillard's counsel when rejecting these rumored transactions. I think the current rift between the Portland FO and Dame is that Dame believes he can do better GM'ing than the current FO does. History does not seem to support this idea based on past Dame / CJ interviews.
Yes, lots of incredible individual accomplishments. He will be remembered fondly for the 71, the .09 and the wave.
I am not sure if Dame was so much on board until Cronin got in the GM chair and pointed the obvious, either that or Cronin just got the carte blanche from ownership to start righting the ship.
CJ won game 7 in Denver. Showed Dame should be a Robin, not Batman. He couldn't carry the team after that. Now he knows he needs a Batman, such as Butler.
