Getting screwed in a Dame deal doesn't help us much more than losing him for nothing. And it hurts small markets FAR more. And we'd get a fair offer within a year anyway. Dame will play ball once we call his bluff. Aldridge was a different situation altogether, IMO. Completely different.
No, it's not. We have Scoot and Sharpe. It is not, like Jovic and late draft picks would save us from disaster and we have to take it.
I'm not sure at this point. He's turning himself into Kyrie. One more drunk tweet and I don't want him in our new, shiny locker room.
From a pretty well placed person, they understand the trade request. They want a young proven player and picks. Honestly, IMO, if Herro were a forward, this would probably be done.
No idea. I’m the farthest thing from an insider. Just call me Sodapop. Damn that is a great joke. Whoever gets that, you are welcome
Well, I’m happy that they’re not settling for an underwhelming Miami deal and hopefully they can figure out how to incorporate Dame while they wait for more interest as camps and the start of the season shakes things out.
I don't even the endorsement thing holds up. He's been part of national or even international campaigns for Modelo, Gatorade, Powerade, Tissot, Hulu. He's one of adidas' top reps. He's got businesses around Portland because of his success. Much of that was because of the image he was able to foster playing in Portland, so let's not keep playing into how impoverished he was by being a Blazer in any way. He was well taken care of. He prospered more than most pro athletes off the field of play.
As I posted earlier, I seriously doubt Portland has any illusions that Dame will play in Portland again. But personally, I don't want his negativity around Scoot/Sharpe. He would be a negative force around the team and Portland needs to turn the team over to Scoot. Yes, that means start him over Ant. Keep Sharpe as the SG where he belongs. Ant can be the 6th man swing player off the bench. Portland needs to pick a lane, which should be all in on Scoot/Sharpe and add to that core. Eliminate all distractions, and Lillard is the biggest distraction in all of professional sports currently.
Then he can stay home. I'm not interested in helping propagate this Harden/Kyrie bullshit. And Dame isn't nearly as bad as Kyrie.
Who is going to be the 5th starter announced at home games if Dame is still on the roster? Who will Mark Mason shout out with the video splash? That's going to be a reality check for Dame if it happens because I don't see them trotting him out in that spot given the circumstances.
Completely agree. Dame camp been quiet. Things have settled down and he hasn't come out and said it but i bet he's had second thoughts and could very well retire a Blazer. Been feeling this way for awhile. The ones that don't want him to stay will pile on but nothing wrong with your thoughts. I loved the dude, got pretty sour on him but i'll bow down if he has a change of heart and stays, as i would hope everyone else would as well
If Dame is here they'll hype him up like he'll retire a Blazer. As long as he's willing to be professional and play while he's here. And I have no doubt he will be a pro if it comes to that. Treating Dame with a lack of respect would be insane and defeat the whole purpose of hanging on to him to get good value.
All the Blazers need to do is give meaningful roles to Scoot and Sharpe and win more games than they lose to start the season, and (almost) all will be forgotten. I think that's what Cronin would like to see. I believe Cronin did his best to add talent to "win now" while keeping the future bright.
I think if there ever is a statement that the team is now just looking forward to seeing Dame in training camp that it's just posturing. I still think that Joe intends to trade Dame. I honestly think when Joe had the opportunity to draft Scoot he knew it would likely result in Dame being traded. He just needs to leverage Dame for everything he can get in a trade and Joe obviously hasn't got what he needs in an offer, so this has to be the position he takes. As training camp gets closer there will be other teams that show interest, Miami will get desperate and either another team will swoop in and take Dame or Miami will get a good enough offer cobbled together to satisfy Joe. I think the likelihood that Dame actually starts this season on our roster is extremely thin. I guess we'll see though.
The LMA situation is apples to oranges with the Dame situation. LMA never requested to be traded. He played out his contract and decided to move on. Ironically he decided not to re-sign with the Blazers because he was butt hurt that Dame was becoming the #1 option over him and he wanted to be the face of the franchise.
