He loves this city. He made it clear many many times that the front office needed to do more and do it urgently in order for him to realize his dream of staying with our team for his whole career and competing for titles.

He also made it clear that he loves that money and bolted the second he could after signing his supermax deal. Something he didn’t need to do if he wasn’t happy

Come on man, why you trying to spin it like that.

Nothing has to do with the current state of our team, not improving in the off-season and us drafting a PG, same position as him?

you really think he signed that contract last offseason with the thought in mind he will ask out asap when he could? Come on man

Ronnie is. He is an assistant Coach. He was actually born in Portland when Pops was drafted

Dame has been unhappy with the front office for a few years. He could have easily left after his contract and gone wherever he wanted. Instead he took the money and demanded 1 team

    Fuck him

He also could have demanded a trade in 2022, gotten traded and been eligible for a supermax extension with his new team right now. The idea that Dame played this franchise is ridiculous. The guy expected the franchise to do what they said they would, otherwise he would have asked out at any time before he signed that extension and been eligible for a supermax with his new team either an extension or if he'd have asked out last off season, he would have been eligible for a supermax contract this upcoming off season. The guy still had the requisite two years on his contract that you need with a team to be eligible for a supermax.

Dame didn't play the Blazers, our front office played him and they did it too many fucking times. He was in the midst of the best season of his career this past season and could have definitely pushed the roster he had into the play-ins at least but he sat out and he didn't sit out so he could demand a trade, he sat out so we could increase our assets and build a contender around him immediately. What did he get for cutting off his best season early? The team drafted his 19 year old replacement.

That's how you get a guy whose dream was to only play for one team his whole career and just have a chance to win it all with them. Jerk him around a lot of times and then when he signifies that he isn't going to be jerked around anymore, try his patience again.

Nope. He would not have been eligible for the 35% super max with another team.

Are you sure? He's an 11t year vet so he'd get the 35% simply as CBA scale. And if he signed an extension this summer, it could have been a 3 year extension instead of 2 year. So he could have had a 3rd year for 68-69M

    This part isn't super clear.

    https://www.spotrac.com/spots/criteria-for-a-supermax-extensions-1218/

    Designated/"SuperMax" Extension Types

    Designated Rookie Extension

Player is entering the 4th year of rookie scale contract, maximum salary starts at 25% of the cap (30% based on criteria below) with a maximum of six (6) years (which includes the remaining year on the current contract).

A player with fewer than seven (7) years of experience and mets the criteria for the 30% of the cap is said to be eligible for the "Derrick Rose Rule," name for Derrick Rose who won the MVP during his third season in the NBA.

    Designated Veteran Extension

Player has 7 or 8 years of experience and has 1 or 2 years remaining on their current contract (all with with the same team or was traded during first four years in the NBA) and meets the criteria below is eligible for a maximum salary that starts at 35% of the cap with a maximum of six (6) years (which includes the remaining years on the current contract).

    Who applies for this increase:

    (A) Players finishing their rookie scale contract and other players having been credited with four (4) years of service can receive a starting salary up to 30% of the cap.

    (B) Players finishing their rookie scale extension or other players having seven to nine (7-9) years of experience can receive a starting salary up to 35% of the cap.

there is no super-max for players with 10 years experience as far as I can tell. It's for players to get a bump above scale from 25%-->30% or 30%-->35%. Once a player has 10 years in, they are eligible for the max allowed salary which is either 35% of the cap, or the max raise from the previous salary (which allows the player to exceed 35%; at least it did in the previous CBA)

the extension is capped at 5 season which includes season left on current contracts. Last season, Dame had 3 seasons left of his deal so he could only sign a 2 year extension. If he was signing one this summer, it could be for 3 more seasons. So he could have 'waited'. But he also was coming off his worst season because of a chronic injury. There was no guarantee he's recover or that he wouldn't get re-injured

There is a select number of fans who believe Dame got played then there are the fans that think Dame is the bad guy and the Blazers did little to no wrong to Dame. I have written many time I believe Dame got played and I believe I am right and I would bet a lot on that BUT I am sure there are things from both sides we have not heard or what we heard is only partly right. This is why I say we prolly will not know exactly what happened to cause this rift between Dame and the Blazers for years prolly until Dame retires and / or Jody sells the team and then add a handful of years. This is a big reason why I have gone away from trying to push that truth to being more upset when I see fans turn on Dame and such but again time with tell who was the bad guy or IF there was a bad guy at all.

I talk a ton of crap mostly out of being annoyed etc and I should not let certain trolls bait me but I will defend Dame until the die I die OR he gives me a reason not too. I am done trying to talk sense into some of the clowns on this forum and not talking about people who have legit opinions but talking about the fans ( so -called ) who are getting off on ripping into Dame just to get reactions.

I think the bad guy is the guy who was fired by Kevin Durant and fired by Lebron James...Aaron Goodwin. Dame doesn't control his contract or trade rights. That's not something he can dictate so I think he got really bad advice from his agent first of all. All GM's have to balance projections, speculation and possibility in a fluid manner...you can't make a player come to Portland that doesn't want to come here and you can't make a team trade a player you want for a player you have....that narrative about Joe I don't believe. I think he's transparent as you can be in his position. He's not losing his job over Aaron Goodwin's playbook. He admitted he failed to get the guys he wanted and that the draft picks were better than what was on the table...Dame should know this. When asked if there was fair market value for Dame Joe said emphatically, "no there is not" and he's right.
