Really, the only picks of their own that they can presently offer are '28 and '30; their '25/'26 picks are encumbered by their OKC trade, and thus their '24 and '27 are unavailable as well unless they make some other arrangement with the Thunder.

It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be the Thunder.

If Miami can be guaranteed a pick in '25 (even if it is #30 that year) - that would free up the '24 pick and allow the '26 to be a conditional pick (reverting to Miami's '25 if the '26 goes to OKC).

I actually do not believe that. I do not believe TH can be a first guard / PG on a sub-par team, Simons can, imho.

Does not matter, they are not that far apart and the Blazers already have this position covered for less money...

I read that Detroit is one of the teams that likes Herro. So this is a trade that I would be cool with:
-We send Dame and Nurk to Miami and a second round pick (the worst of the two that we will get in the upcoming draft) to Detroit.
-Miami sends Lowry, Jaquez, Jovic and their 2024, 2028 and 2030 FRPs to us and they send Herro to Detroit.
-In two separate but contingent trades Detroit sends us Joe Harris and Jalen Duren.
(Harris would be part of the three team trade but can't be aggregated with another player from his team going out so the second round pick for Duren would officially be a separate trade, if the trade goes down after 9/4 then it could all just be one deal)

For Dame and Nurk we get Lowry who is totally the right type of pro to teach all of the young guys on this team the ropes. More importantly we get three first round picks and we get Duren, Jovic, and Jaquez. At the trade deadline we would see who is interested in Lowry and Jerami and maybe even Joe, in order to get more picks, prospects and if we have to take on a bad contract that would be fine at this point.

I also read that the Raptors are interested in Herro. I think from the Raptors we should be able to get Dick, Achiuwa and the expiring contracts of Porter and Young who we would probably have to waive just because we won't have enough roster spots.

Would love to get Duren. If not, I would take Wiseman plus a 1st.

I don’t want picks that are “years away,” or even the 18th pick—and neither should Portland. The Blazers have to get more than that for Lillard.

Now see getting Duren could get me somewhat excited assuming we also clean their clock of every swap, every 2nd, every bit of loose change they finder under the bleachers and then maybe a bit more than that. I still just cannot stomach sending Dame to Miami under any circumstances though. Duren is someone I covet though so there's that.

If you don't like the 18th pick then you are either saying that you don't want any picks or you just want lottery picks. Kind of hard to guess who will be in the lottery and when. I think that is what the "years away" proponents are thinking.

But to be honest I don't care about picks either. I would be happy with just want one good young starter who is a forward or center to go with our young guards. What is your suggestion? Is it realistic?

I'm sorry, but there's little to no reason to believe that the Pistons would give up their most promising young big for a guard who they could only envision being a reserve behind Cunningham and Ivey. If they are interested in Herro, it's likely spare parts like Hayes or Sasser they'd pair with Harris or Bojan.

thank you voice of reason! Can't see any reason they trade Duren for Herro.

Utah and OKC, to name two teams, have 1st round picks from other teams in next year’s draft and the ones after. That’s the kind of thing Portland should be going after. I don’t know what kind of picks other teams have, and you obviously need a team that wants a player like Lillard, but Portland needs to get some good first round picks.

Yep. Would be great if Utah would be willing to give up some assets for Herro. Could maybe cobble together a decent return on a Dame-to-Miami deal.

I don't know if NBA front offices take two or three weeks of at the beginning of August but I think that whenever they get back Miami will be in a desperate mode unless they have a plan B. So I think before the end of August or right at the beginning of September this deal will get done. I think most logically it will be Dame and Nurk going to Miami, with Miami unlocking their 2024 pick from OKC and giving us their unprotected first round picks in '24, '28 and '30, Jaquez, Jovic, Lowry's expiring and the both us and Miami will work to find the best landing spot for Herro that yields us the best return.

This will happen before training camp or some team will come out of nowhere and get everything done within a week of any trade rumors to swoop Miami. Dame will not be a Blazer by training camp, it's a harsh reality but I think it's the most likely outcome.

Not sure that Dame fits the timeline Ainge is shooting for, or that the necessary acquisition cost would be something they'd be interested in paying.

I don't think it's harsh not having Dame in training camp. I think it's fine as long as we get good value in return.
