<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Panthers sign former Eagles linebacker AdamsBy Len PasquarelliESPN.comShoring up a position of need with a proven veteran, the Carolina Panthers on Thursday signed unrestricted free-agent linebacker Keith Adams to a contract of undisclosed length and value.A five-year veteran, Adams started all 16 games at weakside linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005 and responded with a career season, registering 101 tackles. It is believed that Adams will go to training camp as the Panthers' starter on the weak side.Carolina has been forced this offseason to revamp its linebacker corps. The Panthers lost standout weakside 'backer Will Witherspoon to St. Louis as an unrestricted free agent. The team also released Brandon Short, its starting strong linebacker in 2005, for salary cap reasons this spring.Thomas Davis, the team's first-round choice in the 2005 draft, is expected to move to linebacker this year, after spending his rookie campaign playing safety. The Panthers chose Davis last year knowing that, at some point in his career, he would probably move to linebacker, his more natural position. Davis logged time at the nickel linebacker spot in 2005.Dan Morgan remains the starting middle linebacker. In Adams, the Panthers are getting an undersized but active player who has demonstrated improvement every season of his NFL tenure. One of the league's outstanding special teams performers earlier in his career, Adams finally battled his way into a starting spot in 2005, after only posting seven starts in his first four campaigns. Known to his teammates as "The Bullet," because of his speed and intensity, Adams is a very quick and instinctive player who goes hard every play.Although he is just 5-feet-11 and 223 pounds, Adams, 26, plays with leverage and economy and simply has a knack for getting to the football. The son of former New England defensive end Julius Adams, he was a seventh-round choice of the Tennessee Titans in 2001, was released and signed with Dallas. Despite a solid season on special teams, the Cowboys released Adams in 2002 and Philadelphia claimed him on waivers. In 67 games, Adams has 185 tackles from scrimmage, three forced fumbles and four passes defensed. The former Clemson standout has also averaged nearly 20 special teams tackles per year and had a league-best 30 tackles on kick coverage units in 2003.Adams was also sought as a free agent by Oakland, Arizona and Washington.Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com.</div>

I'm thinking they're going to use him mostly as a Special Teams player...and depth at the Weak Side LB spot.

Not so sure on them viewing him as depth as you are.

I could've sworn we were going to put Thomas Davis at the weak side spot, I don't know how well he's going to excel at Sam. I wouldn't count out Fox drafting another LB early on..because I'm not sold on Seward, and Dan Morgan has shown he can't stay healthy through out a 16 game schedule the past few seasons.
