I think Chauncey is a better fit in the front office and would make a better "life" coach than "NBA" coach....I too hope I'm wrong but I think Dame wanting to leave after watching Spoelstra take a bottom seed to the finals and weighing that against Chauncey's blown endgames and poor defensive schemes with his "zone" solution played a bigger part in the decision than the roster or the draft picks. We gave a prime time Dame a rookie head coach and fired the guy who brought him to his level of fame. Doesn't get talked about much. Chauncey tanked to a horrible first two year win loss record.
fans were allowed to jump all over Stotts for coaching blunders. But if you emphasize Coach Billups mistakes, then you must be a troll from Miami that needs to leave Blazer fans alone.
Seriously. People were calling out Stotts for decisions he made in the 2nd quarter of games they won. It was crazy stuff?
At this point Chauncey has made it to the playoffs zero times. Billups has a 62-104 coaching record with a staggering .373 winning percentage. One is not like the other...
I don't think that's fair because it's avoiding context. I never liked using direct results to analyze coaching and this is why. The Blazers were 2.5 games out of HCA at the deadline when they blew it up. Stotts had many late-season runs. Chauncey didn't get the chance. His first season he didn't have Dame. That being said, Chauncey hasn't been good. But that's based on his coaching decisions.
I do agree with the context portion of your statement for sure. However eventually direct results do come into play. I also kind of expected bad coaching from a rookie coach. Eventually he isn't a rookie coach any longer. With the circumstances he has been given I would assume he needs to start turning this ship around fairly soon or he will not be around for when Sharpe and Scoot are coming into their own. I wonder what a more experienced coach could do with these guys?
we're using the Kevin Knox thread to discuss Chauncey's coaching. It's not fair to Kevin, how did all this start? Because Blazer fans DO NOT like to talk about Billups bad coaching. And it somehow warped into the Kevin Knox thread. Cronin said he didn't "deal Chauncey a good hand." What hand did Damian get dealt? Lillard was the team captain, was his hand any better? Lillard tried to make it work, Billups tried to make it work, Who was dealing the bad cards from the deck? The #3 lottery pick became the consolation prize after dealing marked dueces into a stack of paint cards.
I guess if everyone from all sides just say the other was dealt a bad hand they can all get another year or two or maybe even three before they have to look for another job? But Chauncey was a Finals MVP right?
Kevin Knox with a great game yesterday for the Pistons. I would’ve like to keep him over signing Ish Wainright. 18 points, 7/8 FG, 4/5 3PFG, 3 REB, 1 STL
