Well, that's why I included the OG version. I think that if Toronto wants to win now, it makes more sense to trade Barnes and keep the better shooting, still excellent at defense OG over Barnes. If I was Toronto and wanted to win now, I think OG has just a bit more value than Barnes if you're trying to win in the next 2-3 seasons.

    PG: Lillard
    SG: Schroeder for defense
    SF: OG
    PF: Siakam
    C: Poetl

I think that's a top-3 team in the East. I only have Boston and the Bucks above them, plus they get a two for one of hurting Miami. That team is awesome at defense, has good shooting/closing with Lillard and I believe has an excellent chance to come out of the East, really only the Bucks seem like they are significantly better. If you swap out OG for Barnes, I actually think they are a bit worse unless/until Barnes develops a 3-ball.

Edit: Sorry I hadn't seen you responded to the other post. That said, until Lillard is traded I think we can all just theorize away.

Do it Toronto, and I will root for that team to win. Dame to Miami, I will root for that team to miss the playoffs every year until his contract is up.

Is Jarace Walker that good? I'm in favor of any trade where Lillard doesn't go to Miami so that part I like, but is Jarace that good?

I think going to Toronto gives Dame a good shot at MVP.

He was projected by many as the top PF in this draft, the best forward defender in the lottery. He would be a phenomenal fit with Scoot and Sharpe.

Barnes value might have peaked after his rookie season. He could be the next Evan Turner.

The crazy thing is, Toronto literally needs to offer Dick GTJ filler and SAS-unencumbered picks and that's debatably preferable to the lowball Miami package.

We don't even need to go down the road with Barnes or OG, IMO. And I say that as someone who isn't even a huge fan of Gradey Dick, but Jaquez and Jovic are different tiers of young players, IMO.

I don’t think it’s a crazy pipe dream. If it’s true that Grizzlies were willing to give up a package for OG only slightly lower than their package of 4 1sts for Bridges, Walker could be getable. Indy seems to always pick the safe or NBA ready guy in the draft, it feels like they’ve been stuck in this cycle of trying to make noise but never being bad enough to get to the top of the lottery.

McConnell (a backup) and Walker (a rookie), with zero picks attached actually sounds like an amazing deal if I’m Indy. Imo, we would have to value Walker like crazy to be okay with getting no picks back. If we get an unprotected TOR 1st instead of Achiuwa, I’d be pretty happy with the trade.

OKC is still my favorite destination, but Toronto is a close second at this point.

Here is one trade that I think makes sense for all three teams but can't be made until 10/10.

i know. but an article came out yesterday from Sam Amick saying he would just simply ask for another trade to MIA later while creating Harden-esque drama.

Don't think the timing of the article is a coincidence.

Sure but Toronto has experience with a star player who doesn't want to go there.

Also, not sure why they'd be surprised with Dame being unhappy.

Amick was saying Kawhi had an out in a year, so he deemed Toronto's financial risk lighter then, as compared to dealing with an unhappy player on a 4 yr, 215 mil contract.

I think this demonstrates one more reason why it probably would be better to wait, unless a deal Cronin really wants appears.
Settling just to get a deal done before training camp doesn't make any sense to me.

This article says newly signed free agent is ineligible to be traded until December 15 or until he’s been under contract for three months, whichever comes later.

FAs Signed After Friday Won’t Become Trade-Eligible On December 15
September 15th 2023 at 2:59pm CST by Luke Adams
Unless he’s part of a sign-and-trade deal, an NBA free agent who signs a new contract can’t be traded immediately. The Collective Bargaining Agreement states that a newly signed free agent is ineligible to be traded until December 15 or until he’s been under contract for three months, whichever comes later.

Based on that rule, the majority of the free agents who signed new contracts in July, August, and the first half of September will become trade-eligible on December 15 (a smaller group of free agents who met certain specific criteria won’t become trade-eligible until January 15).

By our count, (see list below) at least 85 players will become eligible to be moved on December 15. That doesn’t take into account any players signed to non-guaranteed training camp deals who might earn regular season roster spots, since our list doesn’t include players on Exhibit 9 or Exhibit 10 contracts.

However, that list won’t continue to expand to include any additional names after Friday, since we’re now exactly three months away from Dec. 15. As a result, a free agent who signs a new contract after today will remain trade-eligible (I think he means Trade Ineligible) for a full three months, rather than becoming trade-eligible on Dec. 15.

For instance, a player who signs on September 22 would become eligible to be dealt on December 22; one who signs on October 4 would become trade-eligible on January 4, and so on.

November 8 is an important date in this discussion, since this season’s trade deadline will land on February 8. A player who signs a free agent contract on November 9 or later will be ineligible to be dealt during the 2023/24 season.

Once the season begins next month and we have a better sense of which players signed after Sept. 15 have earned spots on regular season rosters, we’ll publish a new list of those players’ trade eligibility dates to complement our December 15 and January 15 round-ups.
