I think this lineup would be REALLY good on defense at times.

    Scoot
    Thybulle
    OG
    Grant
    Ayton

Yep. If we get OG and Ayton, there can be no excuses on that end of the floor

    I agree here.

If its OG, Id want to have Dick included.
    OG + Dick
    or
    Barnes +GTJr

Significantly better than anything we've seen in the last decade.

The weak link here is Grant. Rebounding is a key component of good defense.

So...is that what people really want? Ayton & OG?

when OG gets his new deal, the Blazers would be spending 120-130M year for Grant, Ayton, OG, and Ant. And there isn't an all-star level player among the 4. Nobody close

people really want to hop off of the supposed Dame treadmill and immediately hop on that one? Looks like just another brand of purgatory to me. Maybe purgatory is the best we can hope for, but spending 90% of the salary cap for that foursome looks kind of dumb to me

We can pay those guys that much money because the future of the team are still on rookie deals.

I think Ant is gone at the deadline. I think Grant could be gone at the deadline. You’re talking about a short term problem.

That’s not a treadmill. That’s just putting talented guys around Scoot and Sharpe who are veterans but aren’t old. Grant is the only oldish one. There is still a bright future with that team as they gel and Scoot/Sharpe improve.

that’s fair. but empirically, I think dick + picks beats miami’s offer. I don’t think jaquez and jovic have any real value for Portland.

Yeah, if we are taking on OG with the intent to re-sign him (and not flip him), I think you immediately start testing the trade waters with Grant.

Now that's an interesting question. Taking the bigger names out of it, how would everyone rank the following potential six "prospects" in terms of value to Portland (either for the roster or as future trade assets): Jovic, Jaquez, Martin, Dick, Achiuwa, Koloko?

You also have to factor Kris Murray into that calculus.

We'd be looking to replace Ant and Grant, IMO (eventually, in the right deals)

And hopefully our All Stars will be Sharpe and Scoot. Ayton could get the nod if he decided to do it...

Certainly better than anything Miami has been offering.

yes, it is a treadmill, IMO, but that's not what I'm looking at. I don't expect Dame to be traded for an all-star. I do expect him to be traded for a couple of opportunities at landing a future all-star, however remote they may be. OG and Ayton are not that opportunity; not close. Now, I'm assuming that each one would cost the Blazers at least one of the picks that would be moving in a Dame trade. I'd much rather have the picks than those two players, personally

I don't have anywhere close to the confidence in Scoot/Sharpe that you do. I'm hopeful, but right now I'm not assuming any greatness

I'll admit to being curious given Schmitz's apparent fondness for Jaquez as to whether the Blazers would have gone with Murray or Jaquez had both been available at #23.

Yeah I originally wanted to flip Grant to Cleveland for Allen but if we pick up Ayton I don’t think that would happen. I’d be trying to send Grant to a team that can send us a young forward.

Definitely need a real power forward (rebounds) instead of Grant.

That would be ideal, but under the OG scenario, I would even be open to a Hart-like trade scenario in which we are taking on expirings and/or low-cost reclamations for a mid-first pick.

    I disagree here.

Neither OG or Ayton are likely to ever see an all-star appearance. However, both have shown that they are at least starter level material & still have the potential to take another step - where they could be in the discussion for an all-star bid.

The likelihood that OG/Ayton reach all-star is MUCH higher than pick #25 in the 2025 draft (or whatever picks we receive in the draft)
