Yes. But it's a huge caveat. Just forgot. Bullshit. I know the CBA very well also. Thanks. I enjoy geeking out on it. But to be like hey, I have inside info! Of course, it sounds like bullshit because it's not actually legal, and is something an agent would handle versus a player. But I'm going to pass it along to push my narrative that Cronin is a liar and mean. Like, if you get inside info from someone that passes along something like that...sounds like it's just Dame's brother or some shit. The knowledge isn't great.
Don't care for the receipts. Aint wading through 2 hours of just any podcast

I don't really get it either. We keep hearing from certain people here how they know how this all works, but we're supposed to simultaneously believe the 11-year vet player and his agent didn't know ... and it's still somehow Cronin's fault.

Like I said with other claims, it doesn't past the smell test, and if you're getting that kind of information from somewhere, I'd begin the question the quality of my source.

I guess maybe Cronin pulled down his hood, waved his hand and said "this is not the deal you're looking for. Move along."

I said it wasn't mine, said it might be biased and therefore not legitimate, I don't even know if I believe it, said I'm just a messenger and I honestly forgot that caveat and can back it up with proof so chill, man.

How about looking at it as, "Cronin told Dame he'll never need a NTC" as part of his pitch to have Dame sign the extension, because Dame wanting control over his future destination was creating hesitation in extending, and Cronin said that to allay those concerns? Wouldn't that pretty easily reconcile the "Joe misled Dame" viewpoint with the "Dame has never been eligible for an NTC" counter?

I mean, it seems 1) like quite a bit of goalpost moving from where we started; 2) it's another attempt to relieve Lillard of any responsibility for his actions; 3) it's hearsay and speculation and; 4) Dame's the one that requested the trade, Cronin didn't just go and say the Blazers didn't want him anymore.

    That's why it's a "no."

We're getting to the point of trying to justify Dame's actions so hard that we're actually infantilizing him.

I'm looking forward to reading by tonight how Dame was starving because Cronin didn't put the spoon of food in his mouth.

    Good point.

So aside from those it's Miami*, Orlando, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio for tax purposes, right?

And players aren't flocking to Boston in free agency.

I haven't seen players demand a trade to any of the Texas teams

"The reality is the Trail Blazers don’t love what the Heat has been willing to offer and hope other teams step up to put in their own bids for Lillard. That was true three months ago immediately after Lillard put in his trade request and is still true a week before the start of training camp. What’s behind the lack of contact between the Heat and Trail Blazers? It’s a product of both teams understanding where the other stands, enough to realize that a deal isn’t possible unless one side is prepared to do something different that it initially planned. One league source who spoke to Portland’s front office last week was told by the Trail Blazers that a trade that sends Lillard to the Heat is “unlikely.”

Do we think a pitch to sign a 2 year 120 million dollar extension was even needed? For someone who'll be 35 starting that deal? Hesitation in extending? He had 3 years left of "team control". He'd be eligible for that NTC in 3 years if he wanted it. I don't think there's reconciling that notion, IMO.

anyone else starting to get the feeling nothing is going to happen, and Dame is here for camp and opening night? I sincerely hope this post is ridiculed and a trade is announced within the hour!

10 days ago I was thinking there was a 70% chance Dame was a Blazer opening night

4 days ago I started think it was a 35-40% chance. The longer this drags out that percentage increases. It seems to be the case that the leaks are usually 2-3 days after the actual discussion and have already been discarded by the teams

one possibility is that as each asset is vetted, another team become necessary to take a player.

it might be this trade has evolved from 2-team-->3-team-->4-team-->5th-team?, and the trade still has obstacles and bugs

Simply saying the tax incentive is an advantage they have. Not saying anybody wants to go there.

But again, my point is Portland isn't actually behind many teams for the free agency thing. They will lose out to a few teams if they are going for top free agents, but if they are smart they don't have to lose their own players to free agency.

But we'll never sign the top free agent of the cycle. Or likely probably even a cycle's top 3 FA. So there are much better places to commit our efforts.
