I hope you're right, but I think it's definitely possible that they simply wanted to avoid a Dame-related trainwreck in training camp. Holiday won't fail to report in Portland and he's a respected veteran so if the Blazers have to keep him for a while, Scott coming off the bench behind him wouldn't be disruptive (and might even be instructive). They can afford to wait and see what's out there in a way that it would have been increasingly difficult to do with Lillard.
