He said that... In terms of an athlete Vince Young is great, but in terms of a QB he's shown very little in the way of proving he's ready for the NFL. Vince shouldn't be a day 1 pick, maybe in the third round, but the 4th or 5th is the place for him. He never ran a pro style offense, he wasn't very accurate in his deep passes, and has never shown that he is a QB and not a RB with a strong arm.Matt Leinart is always talked about as being an accurate passer, but if you watch game film he isn't. [ I watched film on him last night, Mort is right ]. He doesn't had any mid-to-deep accuracy, and his passes will be picked off very often as he underthrows more passes then he throws on target. The 2nd round is the place for Matt Leinart.Jay Cutler is the only QB in this draft that has shown that he has all the tools to be in the NFL. His mid-to-deep passes are very accurate, he has a strong arm, and pocket presence. Even so, coming from a small school and not proving that he is a winner the late-1st is the place for Jay Cutler. There is no top 10 quality QB, even though 3 could be gone by the time the Rams are on the clock at pick number 11.That was me paraphrasing.
Well I'm sure you watched film Then that's wierd how Leinart was the #1 pick two years in a row, he must be something right. Now Young on the other hand, he's right about.

Vince Young pretty much singlehandedly won the National Championship for the Texans and this guy is gonna go and say he isn't a first rounder? Forget this guy...
Mort forgot to say that Cutler also makes bad decisions by throwing into double coverage or when the window to make the throw is ridiculously small.I still think Leinart will be the most solid QB. You're a Pennington fan Vilma. I believe that Leinart has kinda a similar game. Relies on accurate mid to short range passes and doesn't really have the arm strength to throw the bomb downfield.

The important thing though is that he seems like a very coachable prospect who will adjust his game and make better decisions in the Pro's though, when he doesnt need to be Superman to win his team a few games. Is Leinart worth a top 5 pick to you?You basically just said he doesnt even have an NFL arm, but would you pick him in the top 5? While I agree with Mortensen that neither Leinart or Young have the all around package that you learn to expect from a top 5 pick. To go so far as to say that neither of them should be a first round pick is just insanity.
Meh i dont believe any of that crap he said. Thats why i dont like watching ESPN.. Matt Leinart will be good, take my words
Matt Leinart will be the only good NFL QB that'll be taken in round 1.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Actually I did you fucking jackass.</div>Damn. You have some temper.
I have said it all along........leinart throws like a girl. He doesn't have to arm to throw the deep ball or the out route. He had an absolute wall for an offensive line. I want to see him throw with hands in his face. And with the recievers he had he was never forced to put the ball in a good spot, the recievers would come up with it no matter where it was. Vince young is Alex Smith with better feet but a worse mechanics. They ran the swame offense in college. The shotgun option. That doesn't really look too good in the pros. Say what you want about cutler.........be he played for vandy. He carried the team on his back his whole career. His offensive line was shit. His recievers were shit. His running backs were shit. sure he made bad decissions......he had too. no one else on his team was going to do shit. All though i dont agree that lienart and young aren't worth first day picks, even first rounders. I do think they are vastly overratted and that Cutler is the class of this draft.
I'm not going to call him Peyton Manning but Leinart can read defenses 1000% better than Cutler or Young can.He won gun it downfield like Young and Cutler but if you can just pick up efficient yards with completions plus he makes high percentage throws. He's not going to take a risk and squeeze any passes he knows he can't make. He'll take the simple pass. He's a proven winner and as I said, he can read defenses.Writing off one of the most successful quarterbacks in college footbWriting off Young is also being a bit too bashful. I would say he's basically Byron Leftwich with a sidearm release but with much better athleticism. Ben Roethlisberger played in a shotgun formation and is learning on the run how to play under center. Young being only a running quarterback is a misconception. He'll look for the pass before taking off. He waits to see if a passing option is available before making something out of nothing. He didn't have a star WR, he had Linas Sweed. He had to make running plays or take the sack. He might have lots of running yards but it's because he's able to make big plays. He's big, strong, tall, and fairly shifty.
Your missing my point though.Your saying that Leinart doesnt have the arm to make all the throws but makes up for it with his efficency, accuracy and touch, ect and im not disputing that, but thats basically saying that hes another Chad Pennington. Chad Pennington was the 18th pick in the first round. Where exactly is the difference that makes him worth a top 5 pick? Because he played for a superman team in USC instead of Marshall?
big ben was in a shotgun.....but it was a pro style shotgun. it wasn't an option shotgun. there is a difference.
yeah, thats one reason why he is so good at Shotgun. Heard Ben may be having the opportunity to pass the ball more since he really tear it up in the playoffs.

You have some temper.</div>Only have a temper when people call me a liar. I have the ND vs So Cal and the National Championship burnt to DVD's, plus I watched the highlight film on Yahoo. He low-balls a lot of throws, and in the NFL if you don't keep the ball up an LB with hops will pick it out of the air en route to the WR. I rarely saw him OVER throw a WR, it was always under and behind. And under and behind will get you a lot of LB picks and balls batted down respectively. Byrd looks like a master of the shoe-string catch though. As far as Vince, his highlight reel is him checking his first option, and sometimes the 2nd option, but never really his 3rd chck down before taking off. The only film I have on Vince is the National Championship, and in it he rarely checks down to his 3rd option, he's just running running running.Cutler.... I do not like Cutler's credentials. I have no film on him (who records Vandy games?), but he did NOT look good at the Combine, nor the Senior Bowl. Whitehurst looked a lot better than him. Whitehurst doesn't test near as well, but he looked better in his workouts. Thus I'm a huge Whitehurst fan. I think Charlie should go in the late first/early 2nd and Cutler should go in the 2nd or 3rd round.IMO the list should go:1. Leinart = Top 15 pick2. Whitehurst = Top 35 pick3. Young = Top 64 pick4. Cutler = Top 100 Pick
imo you are wrong. You said it yourself...lienart never overthrows..........overthrowing is a good thing in man coverage. He throws low. which is a bad thing in zone coverage and man. He throws behind the reciever and low, which is hanging your WR out to dry over the middle. I hope he goes to the titans at #3 so I can see Bobby Sanders rape every wr on their roster after Matty boy hangs them out to dry. You are right on with vince young, but the truth is you gave him too much credit. he rarely checks to his 2nd reciever. it is: first read...nocheck down RB or TE....notake off.
