Blazers President Dewayne Hankins recalled Allen putting an end to the mounting questions during a Zoom call in early September: “We really need to move on. We’ve got great young talent. We’re not like other rebuilding teams who don’t have a strong core of young players. It’s time to turn the page.”

Those marching orders led the Blazers to ditchPlan B and remove Lillard entirely from their promotional materials in favor of Henderson, guard Anfernee Simons and other members of their young core. Inside the organization, the transition had begun. Meanwhile, the fan base was coming to terms with Lillard’s probable exit, and season ticket holders renewed at a 93 percent rate, up six percentage points from the previous season.

“We wanted to honor Dame’s trade request,” Hankins said. “If we promote him, are we being true to our fans? That was the moment when we started saying that this was a new era. It’s really hard to lose a legend like Damian whose number will go in the rafters as soon as possible. At the same time, I think we’re prepared. Our next step is getting our fans to fall in love with these guys.”

Blazers are going to make other teams work. If a team shows up thinking they have the night off, they are going to get stung.

My old roommate was named Bakke. He was also Pac-10 javelin champion. He was also 1998 state of Oregon football champion now that I remember it.

I knew Art Skipper. The 1992 champ. Amazing guy. Firefighter. He died tragically in a small plane crash 20+ years ago. His daughter ended up going to UO and was in the band. She was a baby and didn’t get to know him. Dude legit looked like Superman.

Ah, my mistake and thank you for that. I skimmed the article and did a keyword search for Jody. Thanks for pointing this out. Interesting that this is attributed to Allen. It's all water under the bridge at this point.

In his farewell letter, (I haven't read it yet in part because I hate the Instagram format for reading) I have read others say that Dame says he wants to come back and retire here which is music to my ears. Him winning a championship with Scoot and Sharpe in his twilight years has long been a dream I have had and now it seems that it is more likely in the sense we got the assets from trading him so they will have more support. Now it's up to them to reach their potential, the far more difficult piece of the puzzle.

Tommy Skipper, his son, also competed at Oregon and won 5 national titles in pole vault.

Speaking about that list, I also hooked up with John Stiegeler's sister, and he was 2001 champion. I think he even won Nationals if I remember right. I had forgotten about that. I think they were from Coos Bay.

We were referring to who was replacing Dame. Dame was never our shooting guard even though he shot the most.
