I just don't see how we would do a trade with Houston. Their youth is probably either too talented as well as all makes about $10 million each so would need two of those guys. I don't see us interested in FVV contract. If Dillion Brooks was only on an expiring I'd think in December we'd consider taking him on with a pick. Can't believe they gave him 4 years though - no way Portland is eating that.

Really makes more sense to trade Brogdon to a team with overpaid contracts. Bulls, Clippers, Heat, all make some sense. Maybe Sacramento or OKC if they are playing well.

I guess we may have to see how teams perform at the start of the season - as well as trade restrictions being lifted for so many players in December.

I see why Houston would be interested, but not enough that they would give up anything of value. They have Van Vleet, Amen, Jalen Green, and Dillon Brooks who can play guard. Actually, they are a lot like us in terms of our backcourt.

I'd much rather trade Ant than Brogdon. But if some team is offering a future 1st (that has a decent chance of being in the top half of the draft), + maybe a 2nd, and maybe a prospect, and an expiring contract, for either Brogdon or Ant, the Blazers really have to consider pulling the trigger

I'm not really sure how much value there is in mentoring. But I have a hard time believing there's more value in mentoring than in the Blazers receiving a high value rebuilding package when they are so obviously at the beginning of a rebuild

and like it or not, there's probably some value in a 'stealth-tank' this season. If you go by their career marks in winshares, Brogdon + Ant will be worth 5-7 wins this season. those wins could be the difference between a 2nd pick and a 13th pick

I say let him start the year and try to increase his trade value playing 24 MPG. His proficient rebounding is the only way to mitigate the Ant/Thybulle/Grant horrific rebounding in the first unit.

    Brogdon/Scoot
    Ant/Sharpe
    Thybulle/Sharpe/Camara
    Grant/Walker
    Ayton/Williams

For the first 20 games let Scoot and Sharpe beat up on second units and get Ant more used to playing off the ball. After 20 games (maybe we go 40%), take the training wheels off of Scoot, embrace the losses, and get an asset for Brogdon.

I'd be interested to know who Houston would consider off-limits in a Brogdon trade...

    I mean obviously Green..

But im the type of guy I feel like Portland might actually make out like bandits if they throew a big package to Houston for Jabari Smith Jr.. But I'd also assume Smith Jr is totally off-limits..

Yeah I think that sounds about right but Houston has Jabari Smith Jr whos really the player I'd be trying for.. (the Thompson twin is worth trading a ton for too IMO but they'd decline)

and possibly even more realistic would be Tari Eason.. whos a really good defender..

I'd actually be down to do some drastic trades with future 1st rd picks but I'm guessing Houston wants nothing to do with trading Smith Jr

    SF - Grant
    PF - Smith Jr
    C - Ayton

is vastly superior to whatever the Blazers are about to roll out , and Smith Jr is still so young it could warrant an 'overpay' n still work out in Portlands favor imo..

I do wonder about Tari Eason though.. But I think he's pretty good n would probably fit right in off the bench for the Blazers. 2.4 offensive rebounds in 21.5mpg(82 games played) as a rookie for eason too. I watched him at LSU he was such an impact player, big fan of his.

I don't think they're putting any of their young players in play. Not any of them. And I don't think they'd be interested in our first round picks.

agreed. and even with Eason, he doesnt equal Brogdon in a trade or anything close for what this Blazers team needs.. Brogdon is actually very, very smart they used to joke that he was going to run for president back in college IIRC.. So he's 30 now and a good lockerroom guy for our young team as well --- which is what Houston wants him for (in-part) too..

I'd also want to put Camara in that starting lineup. If Ayton is engaged and used well, I think that lineup would be able to compete with most in the league.

Exactly. These pie-in-the-sky trades we all come up with just make us unhappy when they don't happen. Maybe we get a late first-round pick in return and an ending contract. That just does not excite me.

I really hope we keep Brogdan and try to win some games. He's the best two way pt guard we've had since Andre Miller in my view. Scoot as talented as he is is still a work in progresss and would benefit from having a vet like Brogdan to follow. Rookies aren't going to be up to speed with the NBA game with the exception of Camara who gets it already. Even Jabari Walker said if he played his rookie self this season he'd kick his ass. The game will slow down for them towards the end of the season.

    it might not

on the other hand, Blazers got more from trading Dame than I thought they would; and more from trading Jrue than I thought they would. So a mid-1st, possibly a low-chance prospect, and an expiring for either guard might not be far-fetched

Wow, that is one impressive interview. I would be surprised if he weren't a head coach down the line.

My Brogdon trade idea is to have patience until a team with competing aspirations has a sudden need for a quality veteran PG/3 point threat. Its very likely between now and the trade deadline there will be a few of those.
