The only guy who knew how to set good screens for Dame was Rolo. Striking how poor Giannis' screens were. But Dame's turnovers yesterday was more just him being careless. His legs aren't there yet.

I mean, not a fan of it looking like we held him hostage, but aside from that, that was pretty funny. And relatively accurate.

Honestly, I think he held Miami hostage, but yeah, pretty hilarious anyway.

I think the hostage part is so over done deliberately, because he obviously wasn't held hostage. He was treated like royalty here and Dame was acting foolish.

Just my take, though. I thought it was hilarious.

My favorite part was when he was singing "Nobody knows the trouble I've seen!" with a GIGANTIC stack of cash and gold coins next to him. LMFAO!

OK, if this was the case -- and I'm not saying it's not -- why has he been so against being teamed with young players with upside for several years?

In Portland, his timeline was a big deal. Now that he's gone, not so much.

I think it makes sense: in Portland he had nobody around him and had to be superhuman to succeed. In Milwakee he’s Option B and can relax a lot more. He will be putting a lot less mileage on his body now, or the miles will be less intense.

Also he wants one more big contract extension probably.

...that's his status quo over his whole career though -- careless lazy pass TOs :dunno:

I think that's an astute observation, but I was going in a little different direction. I'm saying that he seems to have been in such a hurry to succeed that we pawned off the assets that could have grown into the somebodies he needed around him for complementary pieces like RoCo and Nance.

Yeah, Steph too... I mean... um... Dame is at 2.4 assist to turnover ratio for his career and Steph is at 2.1. For high usage high scoring PGs they're about as efficient as there is in this league but hey the dude isn't a Blazer anymore so let's just lob baseless insults at him.

...based on watching the majority of his career turnovers -- it appeared to me that when he lost the ball due to a bad pass it was on easy lil first pass of offense dump offs where he just lazily lofts the pass :dunno: but maybe you can find a stat for that? Is there any way to judge how/when the bad pass turnovers occurred? Not baseless.

I also think Dame is an exceptionally bad judge of talent, and his influence on the front office was 99.8% detrimental, yeah.

This is becoming clear. He was more worried about loyalty and didn't realize what else was out there.

If he threw from half court or closer it’d go in too often so he gave up

We have seen a similar story countless times in the NBA.

Has there ever been a star player that was a good judge of talent and had a positive influence on front office roster moves?

I really push the blame of that failure over to the Blazers front office - they need to do their jobs well and set proper limits on star players.

Agreed. Cronin did it right. He should have been in charge after Aldridge left for nothing.

Dame is still bitching and bad mouthing Joe.

Just move the fuck on dude.

    https://theathletic.com/4982925/2023/10/23/bucks-damian-lillard-trade-giannis-antetokounmpo/

“By the time late September rolled around, Lillard had long since given up hope of landing in Miami. The acrimony between his camp and Trail Blazers general manager Joe Cronin had reached a point of no return, with Lillard convinced that it had become so personal between them that a future with the Heat was not to be. Cronin had stopped communicating with Lillard’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, in mid-September. Even Lillard’s pre-training camp choice to rejoin the Blazers — part of his plan to remain patient while Cronin worked closer to a deal — was met with resistance from Cronin.

“It was anything to go against what I would have wanted,” Lillard told The Athletic, “That part was irritating. Just based off how it was happening, I knew (it wouldn’t be Miami).

“(The Blazers) hadn’t talked to Miami. So once it started happening like that, then I started hearing about all these other random teams, I was like, ‘I’m probably not going to Miami.’ So I wasn’t holding on to that too (much).”

What he had done, though, was green-light a message to Milwaukee in mid-September that would have everything to do with what came next.

When Lillard was convinced that Miami was off the table, Goodwin wanted to know if the Bucks were among the teams in serious pursuit of his seven-time-All-Star client. They weren’t.

But when that backchannel blessing was given, with the Bucks learning that Lillard would be excited about a possible partnership with the Bucks, the chase was on. And so the work began for Horst and his small group of trusted front office associates.”
