I would argue that by my (very little) understanding of Jesus, he was all about helping the marginalized groups, which the LGBTQ+ community is. I don't think Jesus stopped him. The false prophets did.

He was legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, a hate group organized to overturn and block all civil rights for LGBTQ people. They are behind the cases where Extreme Court ruled OK to discriminate against queers if Jesus. Also behind cases seeking coerced Christian prayer in public schools and forcing taxpayers to find private Christian schools. Unsurprising they oppose all birth control and outlawing all abortion no exceptions.

Looks like Johnson was able to get the votes. Going to be interesting to see how he works as the speaker. What will they focus on?

Might be time to merge this thread into the Rock Bottom thread. This guy is a piece of trash.

What strikes me about all of this is that if the Democrats had been interested in getting a moderate Republican Speaker they could have agreed to support such a candidate. Ending up with one of these right wing zealots must be seen as more important in discrediting the Republicans than actually getting things done for the country. What crazy times.

The Dems agreeing to do that would have been the kiss of death for that moderate speaker.

Unfortunately this isn’t an accurate observation, if the Dems has worked with a moderate Republican two things would have happened. First he/she would have lost the votes of the moderate Republicans, and any Republican that did support that individual would be heavily primaries by a MAGA maniac. While in theory this is possible, the reality is that it’s not really a real option.

What moderate Republican? Reportedly Democratic leadership did look at that very thing but not one Republican was willing.

Question is not whether new speaker is a gay hating misogynistic science denying Trump ass licker. He's a Republican, of course he is. Question is will he allow the House to certify 2024 presidential election when Trump loses?

really? Out of all of this, what strikes you the most is that democrats didn’t save the republicans from their own crazy?

It’s hilarious who gets blame for what in this country.
