I thought Scoot looked better tonight. Still can’t shoot but 7 dimes and he had some nice takes. Fouling out sucks but he will learn.
The refs really got Scoot on some bullshit calls. Some of them were legit, but his 5th and 6th fouls were weak as fuck.
Especially his 5th, a virtual lover's caress on the back of Siakam or Boucher, light as a feather on a guy a foot taller. Lame. Oh and let's not forget Schroeder's Flop and pull!
He actually did show absolutely elite speed and blow by on 2-3 plays tonight. I was stoked, he literally looked 50% faster than in any previous game during that stretch.
he was able to drive into the paint in the game. It looked like Toronto was really in love with their man defense and stuck with that rather than packing the paint like the previous 3 Blazer opponents did and Scoot should never shoot 6 three's in a game
Shawn Marion had an ugly shot but they go in. Scoot just needs to shoot 3s in practice and stick to midrange in games.
A sad but true stat: Kevin Duckworth put up 24 3 pointers in his entire career. Many of them probably last second heaves. And he shot 20%, making 5 of them. Scoot Henderson has put up 18 3s, and he's shooting 5%. 5%. And they are the wide open variety.
But what if Duck had a stretch of 5 games where he made zero? Wouldn't that be important context if using it as a comparison? Comparing a few games against a career?
If he's open he should shoot. My 7th grade daughter could hit NBA 3pters (2 of 3 in the game she played at the Rose Garden as a 7th grader), so can Scoot. I trust that he's getting his reps. They'll start falling. He needs to shoot.
Either it's a developmental season, or it's not. To me, it's a developmental season. Scoot should be taking 3-pointers, make or miss. Then go back to the lab to work on it. Try again. If you count Thybulle as a forward, Scoot actually is shooting better on 2-point shots (54%) than any of the guards. Scoot's also shooting 80% on his free throws. There's no indication that Scoot "Can't shoot."
I think Billups has made a decision not to limit who Scoot will be as a player. It might mean less wins in the short run but hopefully pay off in the long run.
Yep. Wins don't matter at all right now. As long as guys are playing the right way and improving. Misses aren't bad as long as they are working on turning them into makes.
I disagree....just because a player is open 25' from the rim doesn't mean that player should shoot. Ben Simmons shouldn't. Andre Miller averaged 0.7 three's a game for his career, and averaged 22%. Rajon Rondo never averaged more than 1 attempt until he was 26 and in his 7th season; and he was a 33% shooter while Scoot shot 27% in G-league the main reason players like Scoot are open so often is because opponents are convinced that player can't hurt them from three. Scoot should be averaging around 1 attempt a game; not the 4.5 he currently is
But I didn't say Ben Simmons, Andre Miller, or Rajon Rondo should shoot them. I don't think those guys worked on their 3pt shot enough. I said Scoot should take them because I think he's actually interested in being a good 3pt shooter and has the shooting form and strength to be a good shooter from distance. I think him missing threes will encourage him to work on them until he becomes a threat from out there. I would hate for us to limit his game now in the hopes of earning more wins, at the expense of him thinking he can't shoot that shot in his career. It sounds like he's making threes in practice. So he should keep shooting open threes in games.
Minus a couple ugly off the dribble threes, I feel like his jumper has looked fine. Most all his misses have been long or short, a lot of the them soft off the rim or in and out. Do think he is in too much of "take what the defense gives me" mode with his shot selection, but I like the confidence.
