This is why I question Chauncey Billups. After what Sharpe showed at the end of last season, he could he not put Sharpe in the starting lineup?
Sharpe has a feel for the game that is natural. He's just super gifted and will be an allstar before we know it
If that's your concern, check out the Billups postgame. No, seriously, check it out. He yanked both Scoot and Sharpe for playing bad defense. "You say you want to be great, there are 2 sides of the ball." (not an exact quote).
With Ant and Scoot starting we needed bench scoring...Scoot might not be starting over him when Ant gets back.
In his first season, one of his most recognizable abilities was finishing after contact. I think he will just get better with that.
Exceeding even my wildest expectations as well, although only through five games. This was Kobe’s year 3, but here was his age 20 statline: 19.9/5.3/3.8 on .465/.267/.839 Edwards year 2: 21.3/4.8/3.8 on .441/.357/.786 SGA year 2: 19.0/5.9/3.3 on .471/.347/.807 Jordan year 2: 22.7/3.6/2.9 on .457/.167/.840 His development is only exponential at this point, not linear. Is it at the point now that we speak it into existence and optimistically expect him to have a stat line around Jordan’s year 3? Maybe this time next year through five games, we’ll be having this same convo while he averages 38ppg lol.
Billups needs to make it happen. Jerami Grant and Simons are not equals to Sharpe, and I'm afraid he might think the opposite.
The comment about Sharpe getting to the free-throw line was spot on. Sharpe showed that ability to take contact from the very beginning. If he's a star 20+ ppg scorer, he's going to make a lot of contact and get a lot of whistles. That's the next step for Sharpe on offense. Screw over the other team to the extent that when you're playing on the road a fan gets ejected and the crowd is doing the Refs You Suck chant.
So, what's all the jumping 40+" into the air, and shooting a finger roll. He did it at least 3 times in the footage.
There are times where I want to see him be a little "tougher", for lack of a better word. He's laid back and a soft spoken kid. I have noticed a couple times in the last couple games where there was a loose ball and he didn't go after it like he should have. Today in the Pistons game there was a rebound that got knocked around near him. He grabbed the ball and had it knocked away from him really easily. As he went to retrieve the ball, he had it knocked away again by a guy who barely reached the ball and Shaedon almost looked surprised. If he had just gone after the ball more aggressively, he would have either been fouled or out in the open court leading a fast break. What I really want to see is Shaedon getting roughed up or out hustled enough that it pisses him off. Laid back is great. Not showing emotions is okay. But, occasionally I want to see him get pissed off and really exert himself. Say, Pat Bev gets the best of him in an important spot in the game and let's him know about it. I want to see him get a little snarly and go right back at him...with authority...with bad intentions. I think once he knows he still has another gear, or two, and being angry isn't a bad thing, I think we'll see what he is truly capable of doing. Can you imagine what he could do if he had the 'won't back down' attitude of a John Stockton or the fierce competitiveness of MJ? If he did, watch out!
I actually welcome the thought of an Ant and Shae backcourt to see how it goes for a solid stretch of games. I’d love it even more if Camara started at SF. Ant/Shae/Camara/Grant/Ayton, based on the film we’ve seen, can be a damn competitive starting five regardless of who we play. It might have to be in little spurts, but we can sub in Scoot as the first off the bench for Camara and play Shae at SF so the rest of the starters can get use to Scoot’s speed. I think Shae, Camara, and DA more than make up for Grant’s lack of rebounding, and having Camara’s energy will set a better tone starting the game.
Shae can't go back to the bench. That would be criminal. If I'm Cronin, I'm exploring options over the next six weeks. Either Simons or Brogdon need to go. I just don't see Simons being happy coming off the bench.
Of course, it’s all depend on Scoot’s development by the time Ant gets back. If Scoot figures out the foul trouble and the starting lineup can get use to his pace of play, then obviously you don’t bench him.
