Q&A w/ Rocky:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>McIntosh: 'I'm Glad to Be a Redskin'By Casey Husband and Gary FitzgeraldRedskins.comApril 29, 2006Linebacker Roger "Rocky" McIntosh was drafted by the Redskins in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He spoke with Redskins.com shortly after the team selected him with the 35th overall pick in the draft:Q: What are your initital thoughts on coming to Washington?A: "I feel good. I appreciate them going out there and picking me up. I am glad to be a Washington Redskin."Q: Did you get a sense that you were the player the Redskins had targeted all along?A: "I spent a lot of time with them when I was there. There was nothing but positive things that that they had to say about me. They really showed that they cared about me."Q: Did you think you might get drafted higher?A: "I thought I was going to go a little higher. They traded up to come and get me and I appreciate that."Q: What are your impressions of Washington's defense?A: "They are a very stingy defense and very athletic. The guys just go out there and fly around and that's what I did my senior year at Miami. They did their homework and found it in me that I am fast, can play all three positions and that I am a very aggressive guy."Q: How did your visit go here when Washington was recruiting you?A: "It went well. I spent a lot of time with the linebackers coach and the defensive coordinator."Q: What most impressed you about Washington?A: "They have an awesome defense with a lot of superstars. They have a lot of guys from my alma mater. They're a very attractive team to be associated with."Q: What is it about the Miami Hurricanes and the success that a lot of their players have at the NFL level?A: "We just do what we do. We're very well-prepared coming out of college. We compete at the highest level, against each other and against opponents. And we win a lot of games, point-blank."Q: What kind of expectations do you have for your rookie year?A: "I just want to get out there and play. I love playing the game of football and I'm glad I've made it this far. I know it's not over yet. I have a lot more work to do."Q: What do you think you do best on the football field?A: "Probably attacking the line of scrimmage--that is one of the best attributes that I have. I attack with my speed. I also know where plays are going and I read offensive sets."Q: Coaches here have talked about your versatility. Coming into the league, what position do you think you are best suited to?A: "I play where I'm needed. My weight can go up or down if the position requires it. I can move well. I learn things quickly. Wherever they need me, that's where I'm going to play. Personally, I like to play outside."Q: What are your thoughts about possibly following LaVar Arrington at outside linebacker?A: "It would be great to go in there and follow in his footsteps. He was a great player along with the other linebackers there. I am just happy to move into any spot I can."</div>http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=16840

During his college career, he did not miss any significant time due to injuries.</div>http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=17679

The decision was made to have the surgery now so there would be no issues with his knee heading into training camp in late July.Roger McIntosh during OTAs. (Don Wright Photo)Before the surgery, McIntosh was showing flashes of potential during Organized Team Activity (OTA) practice sessions. In the last week of OTAs, assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams said McIntosh had several outstanding plays and proved that he can adjust to the speed of the NFL game."Hopefully, the game is really slowing down for him right now," Williams said.Talk to McIntosh and you get a sense he is his hardest critic. In comments prior to his surgery and the mini-camp, McIntosh said: "I have to learn to stop doing some of the things I did in college and correct [mistakes]. I have to learn to do what's required of me now in the NFL. I just have to go out there and make that transition."He added: "As each day goes by, I get more comfortable and I'm able to do what the coaches want me to do. There are some excellent teachers out there and I'm just trying to be a good student and try to learn."When training camp arrives, McIntosh will be one of several candidates for playing time at weak-side linebacker. According to Williams, veteran linebacker Warrick Holdman has the edge right now, with Chris Clemons and McIntosh close behind. Second-year player Robert McCune is also in the mix.Asked if he was looking forward to the linebacker competition in training camp, McIntosh said: "I'm always a competitive guy, but I know I have some great guys ahead of me. I'm just learning, watching from them and waiting for my chance."Roger McIntoshMcIntosh is the only Redskins draft pick who has not yet signed his rookie contract. The signing is not expected to be an issue. He doesn't have to report to training camp until late July and negotiations will likely continue during the next few weeks. The Redskins selected McIntosh in the second round (35th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. The 6-2, 231-pounder played his college ball at the University of Miami, where he played two seasons with current Redskins safety Sean Taylor.McIntosh started 26-of-46 games in college, including 11 games in his senior season last year. He logged a team-high 89 tackles (50 solo) and added 5.5 sacks and 10 tackles for a loss. How is the NFL game different from playing at a major college football program like Miami?"Coaches are a lot more in-depth with everything they're doing," McIntosh said. "They are very detailed in how you're supposed to do things. They want things done a certain way. I just pay attention to details like always and go out there to do my job."</div>http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=1751
I love his attitude. Most people would say they aren't really a strong player and won't admit they are good because it makes them seem less cocky. Rocky on the other hand, seems to like his fast ability and attacking the line of scrimmage and is proud to say it. I like the attitude he shows and will easily fit in with us. I hope he makes the weakside LB position.
