I actually made him laugh. When he asked what I do for the team I told him my job. I said Dame wouldn't have made all that cash without my highlights and he laughed and said, "Well then I'm gonna take care of you so you take care of me!" HA! Good kid!
For some reason the lyrics "I'll stop the world and MELT with you". I remember the melt post game. Lmao.
I gotta be completely honest and say that I think the people saying “give him x amount of time” are going to be disappointed. What does he show which inspires you to think that 2-3 years down the road he’s going to make such a massive improvement that he will be an all-star level talent? It’s okay to be in denial for a little bit. But this dude has flat out SUCKED so far. Let’s be real…
I think it's near impossible to discuss a bust criteria this early, obvious some players can make massive improvements or others never do. Doubt we can answer that this year and even next year may be early. I think a better question is what would the top5 of a 2023 redraft look like right now? I had hoped after a few months Scoot would've locked up that #2 spot. Instead that hasn't happened or been close. I could see Scoot being closer to #10 than #5 right now and that does raise some concern if you were hoping he could be a franchise level star. I'm not sure he'd even be the top ranked Blazer. Doesn't mean he's a bust or can't ever be a nice role player. I'm just not seeing the glimpses we normally see from stars their rookie year. Or even close to the many glimpses a raw Sharpe gave us his first games last year. Where would Scoot rank for you in a 2023 redraft ranking?
What sucks is after years of rooting for a sniper like dame and laughing our asses off at Westbrook being a brick laying machine it’s crazy now we have scoot as our point guard of the future smh
Last night's game was a nice microcosm of Scoot in general. For the first half he was almost cartoonishly bad. He looked like somebody who'd been plucked from the crowd and thrown into the game and was just desperate not to fuck up. He got rid of the ball like it was burning his hands, and mostly to the other team. But in the second half he seemed to find his confidence and he was a productive part of the unit that won the game. So that gives me hope. Right now he looks incredibly raw. In general, judging by the players who've been drafted from the G-League, it SUCKS as a development league. He was getting by on being a big burly, relatively athletic kid with a an intuitive feel for the game, but the step up to the NBA has been STEEP. Is he a bust? Ironically, his +/- is good, and much better than Shaedon's was last year, despite Shaedon looking much more refined and skilled. I think good comparisons for Scoot are Jalen Suggs and Dyson Daniels. Both of them looked liked busts their rookie years, but are now starters on good teams. Neither of them looks like a star but each is finding ways to contribute. And both are big PGs for whom shooting is not a strength. So I think the truth is that we won't know what we have in Scoot until his second or third year at the earliest.
His play hasn't been inspiring so far and you could argue he is the 3rd best rookie on this team behind Camara and Reath. Sharpe is the best comparison recently on the team of someone who generally looked horrible at times and then started to click for him later in the season. Scoot is very young but I will admit that his play in the G-League made me think his transition to the NBA would be more smooth. I'm still in the "give him time" camp but I wish there was more moments that showcased the potential. Scoot is not in a great situation imo with the fan base.....People wanted him to be good to great to start or are mad (+ further frustrated after seeing his play) that he wasn't traded to keep Dame happy here. He needs to work on his shot. That is going to be make-or-break for him. In today's NBA, not having any shot outside for a guard kills the offensive flow. If his shot doesn't improve then he will be a role player at best or a bench player.
Wasntbuddy heild a top pick and then his shot went broke for a year and a half? Everyone thought he would be a bust? https://www.nola.com/sports/pelican...cle_74d445ae-2f93-536c-b554-cf18b76837c7.html
I keep thinking of Omar Cook when I see him out there. Being that I had low expectations for him already, makes this less surprising. That being said, it’s way too early to say he won’t amount to much or that this is the final product. Even when he isn’t scoring, he’s finding ways to get involved and have an impact. He’s learning and I hope he can realize his true potential. He seems to have the drive and determination, he just needs to let the game slow down.
He surely looks like good singer firs time on big stadium concert. Stage is to big for him at the moment. And he is young, so he probably reads the forum and you guys not helping. All he needs is to calm down and gain his confidence back. He was no2 for a good reason.
I kinda see that too, though Omar, iirc, was slow and not super athletic, right? And he was an atrocious shooter in college, and there was a reason why he didn't make it to the league until he was 22. And at 22, he sucked still. BUT I see what you're getting at. It's kind of a defense mechanism for Blazer fans. Don't have high expectations for him (tho I do like what I'm seeing, and what issues he has are clearly fixable). I just hope he finally puts together a string of games where he looks solid out there.
All I really want from Scoot is the skillset and chemistry necessary to elevate Sharpe to the all-NBA caliber player we all hope he can be. Sure I hoped for Derrick Rose, but at this point I'd be satisfied with Ricky Rubio.
Based on what I have seen watching the remix, the g league is a glorified summer league with fewer stars. It’s a bunch of dudes trying to jack up shots and I really don’t see structure or scheme or anything like that. Frankly it’s a horrible place to play a young guy. College is far superior. At least in college you have high end talent and players who buy into a system. I would be very skeptical of any players from the G league from here out. That’s not to say that I think Scoot is a bust, but I don’t think the g league did him any favors. It did not prepare him for the NBA at all.
He's still trying to find his speed against a whole new level of defense. once he goes in full on using his strength and stocky build in a way that makes players change how they defend him, things will open up. I see a bright future. As far as comparing his to Reath, that's apples to oranges. Reath has played all over the damned world. He has a ton more experience.
Scoot doesn't seem near dirty or cheap enough to be another CP3. Because of that, he has the ability to be even better.
