If we're going to make the players commit for 3 years, then the coaches/school should have to commit to stay with that player for 3 years as well. High level D1 football and basketball players aren't committing to a university president, athletic direction, or a school; they're commiting to a coaching staff.

I just dislike locking players in in general. Or coaches, but more so the players. What if I'm a high level QB that can really sling it, but in my 2nd year, we recruit the best RB since Barry Sanders, and now the coach runs the ball 45 times a game, and I'm more of a game manager, and I worry it hurts my chances at making the NFL. Or the reverse, if a RB thinks he's going to get touches, but teams throw the ball 50 times a game, and you don't get a chance to do what you do best.

Or if I get beat out because in year 2, I'm good not great, and have no real shot of going pro, and they bring in Andrew Luck re-incarnate as a freshman, and this kid is way better than me. I have 3 years left to play this game I love, and then I'm done with the game for good. But now, I'm riding the pine for the rest of my eligibility, instead of being able to hop over to like Wyoming, or some smaller school that I can play at.

A scholarship isn't a contract the same way an NFL contract is. And NIL money isn't either. I'd rather talent continue to gets spread around the country, with the hope that it creates better football overall. Instead of, like, Alabama having a season where they have 3 NFL QBs on their roster.

I fully expect a legal challenge in the near future to the one transfer rule. The courts have been pretty clear that the opportunity for compensation from NIL is a protected benefit for the athletes; that the NCAA can't infringe on an athlete's opportunity to earn NIL money

for example, Bo Nix. Say he had a contract with Division Street for 1 million this season stipulating that he play at the UofO (which is legal). But some other school's NIL collective offered him 3 million to play his final season there. If Nix wasn't a graduate (he was IIRC), the one transfer rule would have prevented him from earning 2M dollars....which would be a clear infringement of his right to maximize his profit from NIL

yeah, I think it will be challenged in court

I also think the 'no contact' rules, if they are still in effect, will be challenged. Those could viewed as another infringement on NIL opportunities. Yes, it's kind of like the chaos of the wild west when viewed thru the limited prism of "I'm nostalgic for the way things were". But I find it hard to accept that college athletes should not have the full range of choice and movement that all other college students have
