Sure, but Sharpe showed Superstar potential flashes by December of last year. Just in moments here and there, but they were there. I haven't seen similar in Scoot thus far. Again, I am VERY hopeful Scoot will become and All-Star, I just haven't seen that flashed yet.
All Sharpe did was dunk. I would argue that some of Scoots passes have been just as impressive as Shaedon’s dunks. There have been flashes but they don’t show up on highlights like Sharpe’s posters.
Ausar considered the better off ball defender, Amen the better on ball defender. Ausar and Amen’s shooting are around the same in terms of percentages, Ausar’s form looked better though. Amen was a PG/SF prospect, Ausar was a SG/SF prospect, but both are big enough to play small ball PF. Someone’s going to need to bump the pre-draft threads, there were way more people dissing on the twins, now they’re trashing Scoot already. Disheartening that this is the intelligence of an average sports fan lol.
Scoot has shown major flashes of his playmaking ability. You aren’t watching the game if you haven’t seen the flashes. Even if you are just looking at raw stats, 7asts off the bench shows the level of playmaker he is. Even when he gets a huge assist—the theatrics and everything to hype up his teammates and the crowd, those all show signs of major confidence being built. The rest of his game will come. The NBA is so stacked with talent now, that what’s between the ears matters just as much as the God-given talent. Shae had flashes of superstar as early as those HS clips I saw. Even outside of the athleticism, he had perfect form on his jumper and was ripping them from several feet behind the HS 3pt line, suggesting to me that he was going to be comfortable with NBA 3pt range off the bat. He also showed he was going to be a great weakside defender (the huge blocks would not have surprised you if you watched his HS tape). It takes more than athleticism to do that, it’s anticipation and having a feel of when the opponent will do what. A lot of people who said “all Sharpe did was dunk” were the people who didn’t like the selection, because he showed a lot more than just dunking ability, even in high school. You’re both right about who you’re defending, but let’s not discredit the other player in doing so. We’re lucky to have both players.
I have been saying it all along, Scoot's superstar skill, which he has shown already, is his speed combined with size. The rest of his game just needs to catch up. Once it does, watch out. His speed to size ratio is as impressive as Sharpe's vertical, as in maybe 5 players in the league are as fast.
This thread is a joke. No, I wouldn't take any of the guys drafted after Scoot instead of Scoot. Scoot has a great handle, he has unbelievably great court vision, he has insane speed and just as insane physicality. He has a lot to learn but he seems to have a great attitude and a head coach that can really teach that position on both ends of the court.
I have been monumentally busy with my career and have not watched much Scoot since his return and so maybe those are the games with the flashes. I would love, love, LOVE to see Scoot become an All-Star and am rooting for him. I am just a bit concerned with the injuries. I do also understand that PG is by FAR the hardest position in the NBA and the adjustment to speed in particular is uber difficult. In a similar vein, my son was remarking after his first few varsity highschool games that it's MUCH harder than 8th grade (he's a freshman and starting Varsity at a small HS). He's the 2nd leading scorer on his team after a senior! Btw, how about Shae averaging 26 PPG the last 3 games and one of them with Ant on the floor! WOW!
Brandon Miller is a strange case. I can't remember too many rookies who looked like TRASH during Summer League and preseason suddenly look good when the actual games started. Batum, maybe? I still think we made the right choice.
Miller wasn't available so he doesn't really matter. It's about are the Thompson twins and others who went later in the draft better. An open question.
Not true - Sharpe could always get his shot, and his shot was smooth. The one shot he took (and hit) before getting injured in his SL debut was a tricky baseline jumper. Meanwhile, I have not been particularly impressed by Scoot's passes. I mean, we're not talking Sergio Rodriguez here.
Speed wins you footraces not basketball games. I could probably beat Jokic in the 40 yard dash. Besides, speed does you no good if you can't avoid charges, and Scoot's foul rate suggests he's not fully in control of his body.
@THE HCP has taught you his skill of describing a fictional straw man then expressing disappointment with them.
