How many bad shooters are we trying to have on one roster?

With the death lineup of Scoot, Ausar, Thybulle, Camara, and Ayton, opponents only concern would be defensive 3-seconds

How can Tisse be in your shooting "death lineup" when the dude is shooting 40% from three?

You could extract as many 1sts out of trading Grant or Brogdon to Indy and getting Hield back in return. Then, trade for players that fit into our TPEs and package them with Hield to a contender like Miami for a combination of Lowry and/or Love and one of their 1sts. You could get Delon Wright from Washington or Justin Holiday from Denver for a future 2nd. That’s just an idea on how to get a 1st.

2 1sts for Hield, you’ll be stuck waiting.

Seriously? I could’ve sworn he’s long been roughed as 6’10”-11”?
    Considered another 7’ big?

Ayton too. Dude has a sweet shot with some of the best form I’ve seen in a guy that size. When he spots up that midrange he looks like jj reddish in form. And they are smooth.
How he is considered a poor shooter in this context blows my mind as well.

I sorta agree with another poster a few back, we need to keep ANT until we determine whether Scoot is a bust or not and can at least be a solid starter. And I'm curious to see how Ant's D does the rest of the year. If he can at east play decent D his value goes up quite a bit given his offenseive ability

I’ve been largely impressed with the improvements Ant had made on defense so far. With players coming back, it’s likely he will also have more energy to expend on that end as well.

Because Tincel town is still operating off the same scouting report that the rest of the league is using.

Just agree to sending out Buddy Hield and Jarace Walker for Jerami and we'll find the third team for Hield over the next month. Then we can all move forward happily.

I don’t think they’d give up walker. Probably more like hield and a first would be their offer.

That just doesn’t motivate me. I think Grant is more valuable to us than that.

I don’t think we’re getting more than a first for grant. I mean we only gave up a late first ourselves, and now he’s 2 years older and on a 160 million dollar deal.

Yeah, agreed. I feel like trading Grant for the one 1st and a guy we don’t intend to keep would be a serious underpay. We need all the shooting we can get right now, in no position to trade away any shooting for JUST draft picks.

The four draft picks this year should bring in 2-3 nice players (hopefully who can shoot) to grow the bench, and a Brogdon trade could also bring in additional pieces. We still have yet to know if Ant/Shae/Mani/Grant/DA is an effective lineup, I have hopes for it.

We only gave up a late 1st because Jerami was recruited here by Dame and made this his destination of choice, giving Detroit zero leverage.

$160m is just a number without any context. Next year, Grant will be making $23m less than Jaylen Brown. He’ll be making as much as Vassell. He’ll be making $6m less than MPJ. $12m less than Van Vleet. $6m less than Ingram (and likely over $10m less when Ingram gets a new deal). Etc.

Grant’s also a better play than he was in Detroit.

so, Indiana spent an 8th pick on Walker 6 months ago, supposedly an athletic two-way wing. And 20 games into the season they are wanting to find a player to fill the role Walker was supposed to fill? And, the scouting reports on Walker all seem to either yellow-flag or red-flag his shooting skills. How would that work on a roster that has the shooting of Scoot and Camara?

We caught a lot of shit for re-signing Grant and matching Thybulle and they have both been playing very well this year. Thybulle is dirt cheap for a 3 and D guy.

Yeah, I’ll be honest, I was not high on the Thybulle re-signing. I personally always thought he was too small to be a long term starting SF. In his current role though, where he can come off the bench and just fly around the court, he’s been great. Add to the fact that he’s now a confident shooter, he’s obviously worth the 2nd we gave up.

I agree. In a vacuum, Grant's 32M/year deal seems a bit high. But in the real world, 32M/year for an option #2b or #3 seems like it fits the market. Yeah, Grant has his flaws, especially rebounding. But he also seems to have established himself as a 40% three point shooter and that adds a lot of value

his salary is less than 17% of the luxury tax and 21% of the salary cap. He's 29th in the NBA in scoring while ranking 49th in salary

there is also this factor: after next season, beginning in 2025-26, the NBA will be signing new media deals. They are predicted to be a more substantial increase than the 2016 media money spike. Now, the new CBA has a smoothing provision unlike in 2016. That will put a ceiling on how much the cap can increase each year at 10%. The predictions are that the ceiling will be imposed for several seasons. Meaning a 10% increase in the cap for a few years. meanwhile Grant's step raises are limited to 8%. So relatively speaking, his salary will be decreasing in terms of the tax and the cap
